Because one good thing is better than 10 crappy things.
Lakers have been "accumulating assets" but couldn't achieve a winning record until Lebron came and have been unable to flip any of them for a good player thus far.

Because even with Lebron James that team was hovering around 8th in the West

Because it’s a bunch of average players. You are just enamored with the quantity in the deal but there is very little quality. Tatum and 4 first round picks is a better deal.

My question would be if it's so easy to turn Ball/Ingram into something better, why haven't the Lakers already done that.
Basically you'd get one decent piece long term (Kuz) and 2 shitty picks.
It won't be hard for the Pels to get another offer at least this good from someone else in the summer.
KCP/Zubac/Hart wouldn't even be on the team next year.

I really think the Pels are holding out for a guy they can get that’s in his 25-30 year range...established already and can throw in there as a fill in piece.
I don’t see the pels wanting to rebuild from scratch and go young. I just don’t see it...

1) Eating this contract does nothing for the Pels.
2) Those two picks are pretty much worthless. I outlined why the Pels care about the 2023 and 2025 picks and the seconds.
3) Every single one of those Lakers assets comes with baggage, and THAT'S the part that Lakers fans don't quite understand. Ball doesn't want to be here. Kuzma has a scary hip injury. Ingram is due to get paid, and the Pels would likely have to max a guy who isn't worth a max.
It is more than just the sum of the parts on paper. Having a player like Tatum making the money of a player like Ingram is a big difference for any team, for instance. One guy is possibly a bargain at his price. The other guy is overpaid at his price.
