I would break something if we drafted Johnson over Moody. Johnson is an athlete, not a basketball player.

oh and I hate the term "show flashes." That's just another way of saying he isn't any good at something. I would hope a D1 college wing is able to "show flashes" at hitting a midrange jumper.

It is very interesting, as Jake mentioned, that the leaked names of guys that the Pels are working out are all late-ish 1st or 2nd round picks.

I'm no draft expert, but of the likely guys at 10 only Giddey and Moody have me remotely interested in keeping the pick. Everybody else either is a questionable fit like Sengun, or seems kind of interchangeable with other guys projected in the teens.

Trading back for 2 picks, one of which could be a future pick, and dumping/exchanging Bledsoe for something better just seems like the best value with where the Pels are.

If Bouknight is at 10 I am pretty interested in him.

As I beat a dead horse saying, I do think Griffin is trying like crazy to dump this pick. There just does not seem to be much of a market out there right now at all.

If the guys you like are off the board I don't think moving back and picking up two picks is a bad deal. Say 16 and 18 from OKC. At 16 you're in range to take a high upside guy like Zairie Williams, Usman Garuba, Tre Man, etc. At 18 you can take an NBA ready guy, like Chris Duarte. Best of both worlds.

That's my thinking as well.
If you can get Zaire or even if Sengun or Giddey falls to 16, go after someone high upside there, and then get someone you think might be more nba ready, like Duarte or maybe if Kispert falls that far. I also wouldn't object to Garuba b/c it's always nice to have a fiery defensive beast like that. He's not going to win you a playoff series, but that's a guy that helps you win a few regular season games where the starters don't quite feel like playing and he brings the energy to get them back in the game.

Zaire and Duarte would be ideal if we moved back to 16/18.

I also think we should move up into the late 1st using our 2nds to go after the PG from VCU, if he isn't picked before 26.

If we stay at 10, it’s gotta be Kispert or Moody. Excellent shooting with competent defense.

Johnny Juzang, Marcus Bagley, and Isaiah Mobley have withdrawn from the draft.

I'm starting to like Vrenz Bleijenbergh as a 2nd round pick for us in the unlikely event we keep the high tally of picks we have in this draft. Got some really good playmaking upside that we could stash in the G League or overseas and see how he develops without wasting a roster spot this year.

I’m surprised with Juzang. I guess he want his draft stock to be higher. He did great in the tournament and hope he can build off of that. But going to UCLA isn’t bad either.

say more about Mystery center.

hayes and surefire playoff dont mix in same sentence.

surefire playoff is 6th seed.
GSw will be in top 6.
klay
curry
green.
Wiggins
Wiseman
oubre
Poole
#7
#14

7 8 9 10 are not sure.

you are presuming hayes and zion fill in missing skills.
zion is one dimension. close to basket.
hayes only barely grasped defense.

come on man.
no coach.

I like van vleet.
og too.

it's not enough.

it's a short off season.

FWIW Adams is working on 3 pt shot.
that's your backup center.

and show your rotation guys.
sure fire playoff teams have 3 or 4 solid bench guys.

Kessler edwards in the 2nd would be a nice pick.

Love his shot and the way he handles the ball.

Agreed. Kessler's got a funky release, but he's been a solid shooter. One of the best wing defenders in the draft as well.

Wasserman did an article listing 3 realistic prospects that should top each team's draft board. Here's what he's got for the Pels: LINK
quote:

Moses Moody (Arkansas, SG/SF, Freshman)
The Pelicans could plug Moody right into the 2-guard spot for shot-making. He won't need ball screens or one-on-one possessions to get going. Moody was top-five among freshmen in scoring despite only 10.2 percent of his offense coming from pick-and-rolls and isolation. He's an ideal fit with his catch-and-shoot game and ability to capitalize opportunistically within the flow of a game.

Keon Johnson (Tennessee, SG/SF, Freshman)
A need for off-ball offense and defense could lead the New Orleans Pelicans to Johnson. Things could change if Lonzo Ball signs elsewhere, though Kira Lewis Jr. will be waiting for an opportunity. Johnson could play to his athletic strengths as a slasher, secondary scorer and high-energy defender in New Orleans.

Davion Mitchell (Baylor, PG/SG, Junior)
Mitchell is worth thinking about if the Pelicans aren't prepared to pay top dollar for Ball in restricted free agency. He'd be able to put more pressure on defenses with his burst, and he made significant progress as a shooter and playmaker this season. The Pelicans would also value Mitchell's defense at the point of attack.

Unrelated, saw somewhere on Twitter than Bouknight was spotted at the NOLA airport this weekend possibly for a workout.

he can make real money and work on his game and date the cheerleaders.

he wasnt on any mock lottery pick lists.

2 weeks until draft day...

Wasserman updated his big board this morning. LINK

One thing that stood out to me: Cam Thomas leaped to #12 on his board ahead of both Moody and Bouknight...

Also Jaden Springer seems like he's starting to differentiate himself from the rest of the guys after the top 6 a little bit.

Matt Dollinger of The Ringer released an article breaking down team needs. Here's what he had for the Pels. LINK
quote:

IT’S GETTING LATE EARLY IN NEW ORLEANS. Pressure is on David Griffin to build a contender around Zion Williamson, something his predecessor failed to do with Anthony Davis. After a one-and-done season with Stan Van Gundy, the Pelicans desperately need to right the ship in Zion’s third year before disgruntled whispers turn into something else. Lonzo Ball’s free agency stands as the biggest crossroads this offseason, but if the Pelicans are listening to Zion, it won’t be a tough decision. The biggest question is whether Brandon Ingram should be Zion’s running mate of the future or a trade chip to land someone else. Veteran additions Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe haven’t panned out as expected. Expect New Orleans to be active in the trade market, both with shopping its veterans and its five picks in this year’s draft. If they stand pat at no. 10, the Pelicans should target a guard or a wing, both out of need and available talent. They used the eighth overall picks two years ago on a center (Jaxson Hayes) and could use backcourt depth after dealing J.J. Redick at the deadline. Tennessee's Keon Johnson and Duke’s Jalen Johnson could be great fits. Or Cameron Thomas from LSU could be an optimal two. Either way, the Pelicans need to nail this offseason and get Zion to the playoffs.

I don't really understand backing his sense of urgency argument with Keon and Jalen who I consider as projects. And I wouldn't take Cam over most of the guys that will probably be on the board at 10.

Most efficient transition players this year in NCAA (minimum 80 possessions):

Corey Kispert
Macio Teague
Quentin Grimes
Leon Ayers (Mercer)
Jose Alvarado
Bones Hyland

Word on the street is Kuminga is dropping. He could fall to at least 8 if not lower.

I do not like his fit on this team at all, but do you take a chance on that raw talent (or hope another team covers him increasing the value of 10)
