he question is if Graham or Jaxson starts, correct?

For the most part yes.

Jaxson makes the defense better, Graham + CJ is asking Herb and BI to do a lot. I think that reason alone is enough, BUT

The last 4 games Jax is averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

For the season Devonte is averaging 13.7 points and 4.5 assists.

Unless Jaxson comes crashing back to earth, it's really hard to make a case for Devonte at the 2 instead of Jaxson at the 4.

We just traded our starting SG (and back up SG and 3rd PG) for a SG. McCollum has always been a SG. He is going to be the starter there.

You still don't realize that your error is in thinking these defined positions matter, do you?

This isn't 2K, it's real life. Graham will be our 6th man now. Should've always been his role.

CJ has run the offense a lot when Dame has been out

He's a combo guard who owns leans towards the 2

Devonte is better suited to come off the bench anyways

I rarely agree with you, and your reasoning is flawed(CJ is only a SG and needs a PG, I think we would be fine with him at the 1 like we are with Graham, CJ is a combo guard and can play 1 decently and has, great PnR creator), but I dont altogether disagree with your conclusion.

I really think Willie will start Graham and CJ much of the rest of the year unless it becomes a disaster.

Think DG starts for now...if CJ gets comfortable in the next month then Jax most likely reappears in the line-up.

Get Graham in sixth man role as soon as possible. Starting CJ and Graham together is BBQ chicken from a defensive standpoint.

Zion is weeks away, if he even comes back this season. This summer we are going to make changes and no one can predict who we will have. We are all talking about now. Who are the starters right now?

I love the replies. I am so totally wrong. But then people are hedging, saying Green might try it for awhile. So which is it? Is Graham being benched now (the whole gist of this OP) or are people projecting weeks from now?

I don't see how Herb/BI/JV keep the defense afloat having to carry 2 guards with defensive limitations. Willie cares about the defense. I think within 5-10 games he'll bench Graham. The offense would have to be really good for that back court to work.

Of course McCollum can play PG and he will be great there. He will probably be in that role sometime in the future. But how this team is constituted and with lack of back court, he will start right now. I don't see an alternative.

Also, the whole Graham as a 6th man deal is off. He has no positional flexibility. He would just be a backup PG. Whenever he goes in, he has to play that spot. That's not a great 6th man, where you can mix lineups all over. He will play a ton with McCollum. In those situations, who is he guarding? PGs, right?

Then how am I so wrong right now saying that Graham is the starter if that is exactly what the coach is going to do?

Zion will be back with the team in a few weeks, as you admit. The question is who you are benching when Zion comes back, since it's not Graham.

I don't know if/when Zion is coming back and I didn't take the OP that way. If that's the case, then my bad. I thought we were talking about right away and the immediate future.

I hope we still have moves that will be made (a true SG). But if Zion came back tomorrow, I still think the coach would try the Graham/McCollum backcourt before making a change. Given our personnel, I think it's the best option. Graham and McCollum are going to play together a lot (we have no choice). There is no way to avoid it..

Herb, JV, Zion, BI and McCollum are 100% the starters when everyone is healthy.

But even before that, we're better off starting Jaxson in Zion's place, or even Nance (if we keep him).

Agreed…While Devonte is a better backup option….Who else you gonna start?….A rookie (that is playing good ball) or a dude that put in work for years to be a SG?…We not even at the all star break yet..maybe devonte still needs time to gel with the guys….YALL just give up soo easy…we started off 1-12..look where we at now…

The rookie who’s defense is much needed opposite BI and CJ.
