Derrick Favors said he enjoyed being around the young players in New Orleans and the role he played in Gentry's offense: "Hopefully, they'll have me back. But we'll see what happens."

I don't know if it's public speak or sincerity but I will say this I do believe the guys on the team want to be here. That is a breath of fresh air compared to the past where you can tell no one really wanted to be except for maybe Jrue and even that was pushing it most years.

Derrick Favors timeline:

Trade for him - “This dude is going to be an awesome addition”
Early season - “I hope we can get Favors back on a friendly deal”
Mid Season - “I hope we can get Favors back for cheap”
Late season - “I don’t want Favors back”
Bubble - “How is this dude in the NBA”

“lEtS rIdE WiTh hAyEs!”
Derrick Favors Pelicans team ranking:
3rd in PER
4th in TS%
1st in TRB% (by a wide margin)
Bottom tier usage percentage
2nd in WS
5th in VORP
Best DRTG on the team.

Averages a just about double double.

Favors isn’t flashy and if there are better Free Agent options available at the same if not slightly more, grab that player.

He’s a role player and he’s a good role player.
This team will need role players going forward. If it works out to be mutually beneficial, great, but I’m not burning his jersey nor raising it to the rafters at this point.

Lots of reasons we missed the playoffs, including his missed time.

His play on the court wasn’t one of them.

That, my boys, is a quality post devoid of emotional meltdown.

I agree with all except that last line..

He did not hustle on several loose balls or rebounds at some point every game.

His defense was great against most of the league, but if we are being honest here he will get owned by any top C in the NBA and got bullied by some second strings.

He is a great 4 or 5 off the bench but we need a true 7 footer if we want to go anywhere.

He does a lot of little things well. He boxes out, rebounds, and plays defense.

But he is also incredibly frustrating to watch. He's so slow and just very poor offensively.

The guy used to be an elite athlete and now he's just kind of lumbering out there.

I would be okay with giving him something around the MLE, ~9 mil for a couple years.

Anything around what he’s currently being paid? That’s gonna be a no from me dawg.

That's what stuck out to me the most.

He simply doesn't fit alongside Zion IMO.

Most likely route I'd like to see is 15-20 to Jax, 15 center minutes to Zion, and just get a bargain bin type center to play the other 15-20 minutes. I think that's the best route to go at the moment and look to use the money elsewhere, like a creator or wing 3 and D type guy.

Hayes is a long term project that Griffin flat out said he didn't expect to play at all this year, unless it was in the GLeague.

Hayes is fine for what he is. He needs 2 more years of experience at least before we know what we've got.

But Hayes IS sort of the type of player we need next to Zion. A long athlete that can move, run, and hopefully learn to protect the paint. Hayes has a nice FT form, so I wouldn't say its crazy that he could develop a shot.

He has a ton of potential. He needs time, and that will be ugly for awhile.

It’s not so much that.

It’s that given his ample playing time early, then more of watch and learn role guy, he hasn’t progressed as much.

He is more often than not out of position by 2 steps. As more teams play with 3 wings, a switch will lead to a made basket or a foul. He bites on pump fakes too often.

The Pelicans need to make the playoffs next year or the following.

I don’t trust him to be the captain of the defense based on what I’ve watched and his physical profile as of now.

9mil a year for a guy with zero offensive ability, literally zero, and can only be effective defensively against the other big slow 5's of the league, isn't a wise decision imo.

Favors without a doubt has a place in this league, and can be a valuable asset to just about every team, but he shouldn't be making any more than about $5M a year, and if he continues to be a Pelican, he should never see the court on offensive possessions late in the 4th quarter like our idiot coach routinely did with him, and that's why he shoudl'nt be paid that much. Him setting a pick on the ball is the absolute worst thing we can do on offense.

Relax, Mac, I’m referring to the meltdown topic a few days ago.

I’d also rather Serge or Baynes.

He isn’t that inept on offense, he’s no Omer Asik.

ETA: I’m not 100% sold on bringing him back, or even that ~9 mil is a fair price, I was just throwing a number out there. I feel like he’s roughly an MLE level player (which is typically either a low end starter or higher end bench guy).
