Why didn't the owners stop the Gasol to the Lakers a few years ago?

Seriously, there is a huge double standard apparent right now.

My guesses-

1. Because that was the most lopsided trade of that time and people hadn't gotten pissed off about it being a regular occurrence yet

2. It was before The Decision, when the superteam movement started taking off. Between the Chandler signing and the CP3 trade today, we went from one superteam to three, and the Laker one was possibly going to become Kobe-CP3-Howard shortly afterward.

3. The 29 teams all own a chunk of the Hornets, so they can claim that dumping CP3 is ruining their investment.

What fricking trade were they gonna let go?

One that makes no sense for the hornets on the court?

Gotta be Cuban. The league owns the Hornets and Demps pulls off a trade to make them viable with Paul leaving and the owners block it? bullshite. Just let it burn, I guess. Good luck finding an owner.

Wait...you're saying that Tyson Chandler going to the Knicks made New York a superteam?

They didn't own the Grizzlies, for one.

Melo-Amare-Tyson is a power trio, a la Heat, and they're likely to start adding more stars if players keep pulling bullshite like Billups is threatening to.

Billups is trying to threaten owners with retirement if he doesn't go to the Heat.

I'm sure B-Diddy and a few other players who go through amnesty try the same thing.

OK, let's say they killed the deal for basketball reasons. What, franchise value? A Rondo deal? Better than Martin, Odom, Scola, 1st?

What legal options? He can't force a trade. That would be a laughable suit all around. You ARE still under contract with a franchise OWNED by the NBA, dick.

It's common sense more than legal analysis.

Yeah but you keep bringing up the legal part, which 99% of the time is not common sense. Did you even see my post about the owners being LPs? Do you understand how any of that works? Just leave it alone.

Saying it's "on hold" is promising.

Hopefully they will get enough backlash from the Lakers/Hornets they have no choice but to let it go through.

In the words of Professor Paul Baier, you have a great legal mind, Mr. VOR. One of my favorite students.
