Dell Demps gets back at Rob Pelinka

quote:

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, one peculiarity was that former Pelicans GM Dell Demps wouldn’t deal with Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. Demps would only discuss things with Magic Johnson

quote:

Now, calling those discussions in February “negotiations” is a bit of a stretch. The Pelicans were never serious about dealing with the Lakers then. They didn’t like being forced into this position by Davis and his representative, Rich Paul. And they probably weren’t going to let former general manager Dell Demps make this big of a decision anyway.

So the Lakers — really just Johnson, because Demps wouldn’t talk to Pelinka — would call and Demps would write names on the board without giving them any feedback. Those names would leak publicly and do damage to the Lakers’ team chemistry. But eventually, Johnson and the Lakers got the hint and stopped banging up against what had become an incredibly self-destructive wall.

quote:

There’s also the idea that Demps could have had a poor relationship with Pelinka from when he was an agent. For example, Pelinka client Eric Gordon had a restricted free agent saga wherein he tried to leave New Orleans for the Phoenix Suns in 2012. The Pelicans matched, and the shooting guard never played more than 65 games in a season. This is conjecture of course, but it’s not as though Demps hadn’t dealt with Pelinka in the past. There’s been reports that Pelinka is unliked by some GMs around the league from his days as an agent.

I ain't even mad at you Dell. That's amazing. Thanks for getting back at Pelinka for that dumbass Eric Gordon.

I’d heard this.

Considering that Magic was nominally Pelinka’s boss, Magic would have more authority to make a deal.

Pelinka being an a-hole and getting snubbed was a bonus.

Pelinka is a slimmy frick. That’s why no ones wants to deal with him.

The big example of that has to be the infamous Carlos Boozer incident where he and Boozer lied to a blind man to get out of the last year of his contract, on agreement to sign a new deal at X amount, only to bolt to Utah for a larger deal.

Appropriate considering that was our negotiating strategy last year.

What was Klutch going to do, tell FAs not to sign here? We were already dead so there was nothing more that could be done to us.

I have a lot of issues with the job Dell Demps did during his tenure here. I have absolutely NO issues with how he dealt with the AD saga this past year. It seems like he rightly was like frick Rich Paul's bitch arse and frick Pelinka's slimy arse. Dell went out on a high note as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not going to start a new thread for it, but there is a random guy on a twitter with a few other people confirming that AD's dad was an absolute chore and the Pelicans kept it pretty quiet because we have almost no one covering the team.

That he was verbally abusive to Monty/Dell/Alvin a lot, one insinuation that he stormed into the locker room after a bad loss, etc.

So, we’ve already had experience dealing with a Lavar Ball type.

I saw this on twitter or in a video somewhere earlier today. It was from someone who was semi credible. They said something like, "Let's see how fast L.A. puts up with his daddy storming into the GM's office after a bad loss. That stuff will get to Woj 5 minutes after it happens"

The main thing that jumped out to me when I read the story was Ramona blaming the Pels for Lakers’ chemistry problems. These writers out in L.A. can’t be taken seriously.

Yeah, not our fault that LeBron, metaphorically, drove up to McD and ordered 14 new guys to play with.

Funny that so many don't want Lonzo because of his Dad, but this, if true, is easily a bigger issue than anything LaVar has done.
