Chad Ford (1:15 PM) Yes and yes. There are a handful of teams that believe Saric is a top five talent in the draft. I believe the Pelicans are one of them. So, yes, if the guys they have ranked ahead of him are all gone, I do think they'd take him at 6. However, they could probably trade down to a pick like 9 or 10, pick up an asset and still get him. The scouts that REALLY know Europe say that there's not a huge difference between Saric and Otto Porter.

Interesting.

IF they really do want him, it would be nice to be able to move back a few spots and still get him.

We know that Dell has been pushing to drastically improve the Euro scouting since his arrival, and he is from the SA Tree. So...

I think for the first time ever I'm going to agree with McNamara...we are going to be taking Saric.

Dropping back to 9 seems like the only option. The Blazers at 10 are one of the other teams with alleged interest.

It would be one of those situations where we can pick a guy at 6 we like...and that the Timberwolves like. If Saric is there at 9, we make the swap after the draft (with something thrown in, obviously). If not, we keep the guy at 6.

Wolves said they were looking to grab Oladipo last week, so if he falls, I'm sure a deal can be worked out.

Who is more likely to move up and/or offer us something? Detroit at 8 or Minny at 9?

Detroit has all their 2nd rounders but has traded a protected pick to the Bobcats for 1-8 in 2014 and 1 in 2015. We're not seeing a 1st before 2016 if we trade for it.

Minny has two 1sts this year and a wealth of 2nds, but have traded a future 1st to Phoenix, meaning we probably won't see a 1st from them before 2016 at the earliest.

I'm not seeing much in the way of players either can offer us, mainly because the asking price will be too high for the good ones and many of the bad ones are too highly paid.

Minny has dangled Derrick Williams. Don't think they will give him up to move 3 spots, but I guess you never know how things will play out.

The not trading consecutive future 1sts rule has no effect on present drafts. Either team can trade us their 1st this year even if their 2014 1st is already promised to someone else.

Even 9 is a stretch. For a player that Minnesota wants to be there at 6 will be unlikely. We're hearing that they covet Oladipo and every indication is pointing towards Phoenix taking him at 5. Unless they fall in love with McCollum, I have to imagine they will likely stay put as I don't believe teams in the top 4 wants to move that far down.

I think they're taking Saric at 6 if that's their guy.

I'm talking about *future* compensation in addition to flipping picks on draft night.

I really don't think there is an indication on where anyone is going at this point

Some of his passes in the video I linked are amazing.

You think we'd get much more than 9 and 26 for dropping 3 spots?

Minny may not want to part with 9 and 26.

Granted, if they do, we may end up with both Saric and Sergey Karasev. Not bad considering that Karasev is seen as a good draft-and-stash candidate.

If we did something like that, I wouldn't want another Euro.

I'd want an American player that has played 2-3 years in college. One that might not have a ridiculous ceiling but that can probably play now. Like, say, Tim Hardaway Jr or Allen Crabbe.

I wonder if he'll live down in Plaquemines Parish with all of the other Croatians. They do have a nice size population of them down there.

I'm sure he'll get free meals at Drago's...

According to an older article posted at PR, this is actually the SECOND time Demps has come to watch Saric play.

He scouted him back in October perviously.

Not only that, Demps played for Cibona (the same team Saric plays for) many years ago.

The plot thickens.

Our GM and coach seem to have a slightly nepotistic view on evaluating talent. Austin Rivers has been connected with Monty probably since birth.

Saric has Croatian contacts. Hell, Demps probably knows people quite well that are telling them all they need to know.

They definitely seek the familiar, but in doing that they are reducing risk. Once you get past the top of the draft it's really hard to separate guys so you can reduce some of the risk if you have reliable information telling you he has the attitude to reach his potential.

Demps only played for Cibona very briefly, many moons ago. I just thought it was interesting.
