Time for Tyreke to work on his 3 pointer. He needs to duplicate Ryno's shot chart.

If we do get a top 5 pick, then Philly gets our pick in next year's draft, correct? Is that draft supposed to have more or less talent than this year?

No

In this years draft: If we get a top 5 pick we keep it,if it's not top 5 it goes to philly this year.

Their only hope is to lose every game for the rest of the year and even that's tough to do as we have Milwaukee and Los Angeles on the schedule. The good news for the pro tankers is that Davis will be out until April which is when we have probably the toughest schedule in the league.

If we want to keep our pick, we have 2 options. Pray for a top 3 pick or claw our way into the bottom 4 in the standings. The bucks and sixers are impossible to reach. The battle will be with the Lakers and the Magic. We need one of these teams to go on a run. I'm hoping the Magic will as the Lakers aren't even trying anymore.

After all of that, I still think the only way we keep this pick is if we land a top 3 pick via the lottery.

I'm not sure what the protection is on the pick after the 13/14 season but if we retain the pick this year, Philly will have the opportunity to land our pick next year as long as it doesn't fall in the protected range(top 3 maybe).

As far as talent for the 14/15 draft goes, it's hard to say right now. We don't really know if any prospects in this draft will decide to stay another year and we don't know how deep the 14/15 class is quite yet.

This what I thought but I looked on NBADraft.net and it says the top 5 protected scenario extends until 2019. That's the first I've heard of that but I'm not sure it's right.

Maybe 42 or ATL can clarify

I'm under the impression we keep it if it's top 5 but there could be other language i'm not seeing,

I'm pretty sure if we keep our pick this year, we just lose it next year (unless we get another top five pick). That's why I was asking about the talent in next year's draft.

If the Pelicans keep their pick this draft and the team is worried about losing the pick next season the team has major issues.

Link to draft picks for each team

quote:

2014 first round draft pick to Philadelphia New Orleans' 1st round pick to Philadelphia protected for selections 1-5 in 2014, 1-5 in 2015, 1-5 in 2016, 1-5 in 2017, 1-5 in 2018 or 1-5 in 2019; if New Orleans has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia by 2019, then New Orleans will instead convey its 2019 2nd round pick and 2020 2nd round pick to Philadelphia [New Orleans-Philadelphia, 7/12/2013]

It's surprising/confusing to look at all the deals for draft picks this team has made.

ETA: If given the choice, I can't decide whether I would rather end up with a top five pick this year, or just go ahead and lose this year's pick so we have a pick next year.

15/25 to end the season vs. playoff teams. Gonna be hard to blow those other 10 though...

Demps should have gotten a top 7 or 8 protected pick this year then down to top 5 next year, he probably would have gotten it if pushed hard enough. Philly probably expected us to land somewhere between 10-16 when they did the deal.

We have a chance just because of the lottery set up. But we used up our Lottery luck with AD. SO I doubt we will luck out again.

I know the worst team gets one of the top 3, but I thought the rest is chosen by lottery.

The top 3 are chosen by the lottery, the rest is based on record. The worst team could actually end up drafting 4th.
