Where did you read this about the extension?

It’s all speculation from bloggers, this team doesn’t let that kind of info leak, but I outlined why the speculation makes sense in the top post on the previous page.

I think we have until 12/21 to agree to an extension or else it will surely be done next offseason. There have been rumors of an extension being close, but only rumors.

I'd love some more back story to Hart's situation. This season he is our 10th highest paid player (Ball will make more than triple). He is pretty much who he is, which is a solid player. But they haven't rewarded or commited to him yet. I hope that changes. I know that it is just the system. But its a raw deal.

How do you know? Maybe they've offered him an extension and he wants to bet on himself making more next year. Maybe we've absolutely committed to him and he's happy with that fact but wants to wait until next year in case his play improves.

It takes two sides to sign a contract.

That is a great point. Nobody really talks about him that much. I haven't seen Van Gundy say anything in the few clips I have seen. He just doesn't seem to be a priority or part of the plan, other than as a role player. I would admire Hart taking the risk. But it is a huge gamble, if that is what it going on..

If everyone looks at him as a role player, then maybe....

ETA: if Hart is smart, he bets on himself this season. If Ball leaves and isn’t replaced by another guard/wing, then Hart basically has us over a barrel (barring a huge season from NAW). If Ball stays, Hart still gets a solid deal either from us or another team.

We have seen a small sample size from Gabriel but his defense looks pretty legit. I think he will play more than some people expect. Someone earlier in the thread had Melli, Lewis, and NAW with 20+ min while Gabriel gets 0...

Hart and Lonzo on a contract year means that they will both compete at the SG role while Lonzo also plays some pg, and Hart plays some SF.

NAW is the only one that we are unsure about his role. Thornwell is still #14 on our roster.

If you are referring to my post, that's not quite right. The most any of them have is 16, with Lewis only having 6.

And in that post I specifically stated that would be my guess at the minute rotations to start the year. By the break it will likely look pretty different.

I meant combined, which is actually 32 min for your prediction. I wasn't trying to really disagree with your whole post. Just stating that Gabriel can play SF/PF and possibly be effective at both. He would most likely eat minutes from Melli and NAW. This is why I think Hart will play some more SG this year and why NAW could be in the hot seat.

ESPN story on G Monte Morris reaching agreement on a three-year, $27M extension with the Denver Nuggets:

I think it probably happens closer to the December 21st deadline if Hart signs an extension, but one thing that could be "holding things up" is waiting for other extensions to come out and see what the market looks like.

Not a raw deal at all. He is on his rookie contract. All 1st round players are subject to that.

Getting good players on rookie contracts is one of the best ways that good teams can stay under the tax. It's the only reason that we are under.
