Overall, the draft class of 2014 is rounding out to be a once-in-a-decade sort of group. And it could get even better. You also have to factor in that some players who we're not talking about will rise -- they always do.

Some will also fall, there were plenty of players that the draft analists were talking about last night that were top 5 prospects coming out of high school that fell to late 1st/early 2nd round. These guys can get to college and fizzle. Shabazz was the number 1/2 player coming out of high school and got picked 14th.

We could have ended up drafting a bust of the group along with Noel being a bust from his knee. Holiday is an all star PG and is a little over a year older than McCollum. 2 unknown prospects for a 23 year old all star and people are bitching.

I think no matter what happens other than us getting the number one pick and picking the sure fire can't miss player, people will bitch.

Drafting McLemore and trading Gordon must have been very tempting. Or at least it would have been to me. I guess it all depends on what Dell thinks he could get for Gordon.

MCW is a bag full of meh. He absolutely cannot shoot. We've had enough of the sucking and hoping for a high pick. I don't want to draft a guy who stays hurt and never develops an offensive game. You can find a center to just play defense anywhere. Your beloved OKC Thunder have Kendrick fricking Perkins for God's sake.

I'd rather have Holiday/Davis/Gordon/Anderson than Gordon/Davis/Hurt Center/some crapshoot draft pick.

No we're not. That's fricking stupid. Did you watch us play last year? For us to be a bottom 5 team, we'd have to trade Gordon for scraps and that blows up your young core argument.

I honestly think we will be an extremely exciting team to watch this year. SF is still our achilles heel, but we sure do have some great young talent.

We have another 5 mil to spend on SF plus the MLE I'm assuming.

On paper, this is a team that will be in or just outside the playoffs this season, with room for improvement to follow.

The only real concern I can see with the franchise's propensity to give up picks is, does this core get you a contender? Will the internal development of the young guys push them to a top 4 seed? Still way too early to say, but sustainability will come from keeping picks and finding good pieces mid to late 1st round to supplement the core.

I disagree. There's more than one way to succeed and sustain in this league. Through the draft is the riskiest way.

I think we still need to somehow trade for a SF. If we can get some kind of offense from that position to go with what we already have, we'll be fine with losing our 1st next year. We can manage with our centers for now but I think that will be our biggest position of need soon since we can't guard a handful of big guys in the West.

This.

I posted this in another thread, but there have been like 5 successful teams in the last 40 years that followed the "OKC" model.

80's - Celtics and Lakers
90's - Bulls and Jazz
00's - Spurs
10's - OKC and perhaps the Bulls

Building through the draft is unpredictable as frick. A shitload more teams remain in the shitter always getting high draft picks, than teams that have a couple of good drafts and rise to the top.

Now they have 2 lottery picks next year and mcw and noel to build around.

Our pick definitely has a chance to be outside the lottery. Noel and MCW are both huge question marks.

This deal will look like the Harden deal last year when Holiday and Davis are one of the best young tandems in the league, MCW and Noel are mediocre players and that 2014 draft pick isn't worth crap because we're good next year.

Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, Perry Jones and Houston's high first rounder looked nice last year.

Martin's gone, Lamb and Jones showed nothing and Houston was good this year so that pick got OKC Steven Adams. Congrats on giving up your young all star OKC...you too Philly.

Can you tell me how any team can be set long term, when they don't even know what they have?

Its hard to take someone serious when he lists James McAdoo as a reason we should have kept the first rounder.

Yea. The HOU trade looked like it could have been positive for both teams. Turns out Houston got WAYYYYYYYYY better and OKC got worse.

I think that is likely what will happen here.
