This thread went off the rails far and fast. Does anyone have anything to say about Justin Holiday? Most of us seem to think Moore is an acceptable value making roughly the MLE. Is Justin Holiday as good as Moore? Most of the stats do seem to suggest they're comparable, LINK although Holiday had a much higher RPM than Moore.

I like Holiday's game, but I think Moore is the better player. Holiday is a lot like his brother defensively. He's a good one-on-one defender but I question his team defense especially on a long possession. His numbers suggest he'd be an above average shooter but I'd personally rank him in BAE territory versus MLE territory.

If they were to move on from Moore via trade, Holiday would be an adequate replacement, IMO.

HP basketball had some tweets that his shooting is higher end tier in the league ... 75-88 percentile in a lot of categories. His defense was also the best on the Knicks last year as well by the metric they tweeted. Was a few days ago and they tweet a lot or id find them.

Justin Holiday was 83rd percentile in spot-up, 87th on the cut, and 78th on hand-offs. Free agent next week.

Is what HP tweeted.

haha, I don't think so. I'm a pretty positive person for the most part.

and on Justin, i'd like him on the team, but I don't really care one way or the other. Not a guy that we should use the MLE on though, and if he wants that much, then no thanks.

I think a problem is defining who exactly is worth the MLE now? We are still in a weird money period with the cap.

I think both Moore and Holiday (Justin) are solid role players who can spot start. They seem to be very similar players with Moore being a combo guard and Holiday more of a 2/3. Holiday is a more versatile defender and better rebounder, while Moore is a better creator and ball handler. Similar shooters with edge going to Etwaun. I don't see a huge discrepancy in their respective value, but I admit to not watching Justin Holiday play very much.

I think the MLE should probably be your 6th best player, if you have a somewhat balanced roster. The more top heavy your team, the higher up the MLE is in hierarchy (if you have multiple players on max contracts the MLE might be your 4th or 5th best player).

Jrue's kid was just born - even if he signs a 5 year contract, his kid wont be school age until he turns 6

That's fine to say, but who do you think are options this year that would receive the full MLE?

Collison
PJ Tucker
Bogdonavich
Joe Ingles
Patty Mills
CJ Miles
Ian Clark
Sefolosha
Jonathon Simmons
Mbah a Moute
Justin Holiday
Tony Allen
Shelvin Mack
Casspi
Shaun Livingston
Gerald Green
Shabazz Muhammad

Some of those guys aren't worth the full MLE, and a few might be worth more. I'm sure i'm missing some too, since this was just off the top my head.
If Snell or Simmons can be had with the full MLE, i'd give that to them in a heartbeat.

Players like Jonathan Simmons (may get more due to RFA), James Johnson, Tony Snell, Darren Collison, Andre Roberson (may get more), Patrick Patterson, etc...

IMO, those are the types of players that should get the full MLE, but who knows if they'll get overpaid. It only takes one a-hole.

I think Snell and Simmons get more than the MLE. I also think we should offer both of them the full MLE, Simmons first.

I think they may, because RFA's are typically overpaid.

I think at the least Livingston, Collison, Miles, Mills, Ingles, Snell, Bogdonavich and Simmons would require more than the MLE.

i'd agree. It would be great to get any of those with the MLE, although i don't think Livingston really fits this team.

I honestly do not see the appeal in Justin Holiday. He is a marginal player IMO. I would not invest much in him. Although I realize he may get more, I view him as more of a BAE type player.
