There is only one answer- Pistol Pete!! There will never be anyone else close to his greatness!!

Got to be Pistol Pete
So the way I phrased my question was kind of bait. It eliminates people like Alonzo Mourning but I knew we’d get a lot of Pistol ones.
The most associated player to our city played for a team that hasn’t been here in 42 years.
I dare say we have the worst history of any team in the nba. Basically every player we’ve ever had would simply say in passing “oh yeah and then I played in NO”

Uhhh yeah. I’m not even really accepting Pete as an answer.
In the entire history of the New Orleans hornets/Pelicans there isn’t one player primarily associated with us. No one to this point would choose to “retire a Pelican/Hornet”
That’s wild to think about.

David West is clearly the answer if we aren’t including Pistol Pete.

I bet most people outside of Nola will remember him with other teams.

He played new than half of his career in New Orleans, and all of his best seasons from a stat standpoint came in New Orleans.

And CP3 played here as long as anywhere else in his career and his 2 seasons were here.
But that’s not how he will be remembered

I see your point, good one. Pistol was great though, I’m sure a lot of folk still associate the team with the Jazz moniker too.
