You mean in terms of actual financials? Yes, they most definitely are. The NBA can't hang on to the team forever. They aren't the NFL (we're talking about the actual league association, not the teams), they are not bankrolled. I don't think it will make a difference, as I doubt they plan on holding on to the team for more than a year, but if they can't find a local buyer within the next 18 months, they're going to have to sell it to someone else.

I think what he's saying is the Hornets won't bankrupt the NBA.

A pet project to leave, they never wanted the team here because NOLA was already a failed market. I mean seriously, the Hornets have 3o wins which is awesome in the west and have trouble drawing. It's just demographics and lack of corporate cash, that's all.

(and lack of corporate though is the killer, if Memphis didn't have some corporate presence they would have hauled arse too).

Wrong. Not for many years to come. The local Memphis and Shelby County governments are a joke, but they have done one thing right- the Grizzlies lease agreement. Anyone who buys the team and wants to move it will have to pay off the ENTIRE remaining debt of the FedEx Forum. That debt is still around $100 million. Add that to Mike Heisley's high asking price for the team, the cost of moving, and possible building or upgrades where they would move to, and you can forget about the Grizz moving in the next 7-10 years. After that, somebody local may have to come through.

Also, despite what many may say about the Grizzlies, Heisley's recent stinginess with contract money (which seems to be letting up a little now) and the size of the organization, has made them a break-even team. For a small-market team without a superstar and tons of success, that is actually pretty impressive. There are 5 or 6 teams that are threats to move, but at least for a while, the Grizzlies aren't one of them.

I rarely say anything like this on a message board because it usually sounds like someone shooting their mouth off . . . but I promise you I know more about what happened with the Jazz 30 years ago and I definitely know more about what's going on involving the Hornets with the NBA, the state/arena lease and local ownership than you do. No offense. The team is more likely to remain in N.O. than not. Promise.
