We would be waiting until 2023 at the earliest for the third pick. That's also assuming Celtics would even offer it. Hayward's contract is really, really bad.

Lol no. The MEM pick is 1-8 protected this year, 1-6 next year and unprotected in 2021. So 2021 at the latest on that one. An unprotected future first could be a huge asset. It's how Boston got loaded up with all its assets.

I understand Hayward's contract is bad. But look at the assets you'd have: Jrue, Brown, Heyward, whatever Niko and Randle net you, +4 first round picks.

That's miles better than what the Lakers can offer.

I guess I don’t follow the NBA like the posters here but I have one question :

Why do stars like LeGM get to organize super teams and the league becomes top heavy ? Lebron is tampering and is going to get his way and stock up with an all star team within 3 years. The pelicans can’t do shite. Are we sure Roger Goodell isn’t behind this move too ? (Jk)

Sons, today is a bummer. To all my Pelibros that were posting during the height of the PDX/GS series' and during the dregs of August, a big shout out to all you guys today. Cheers to ATL for keeping this board on point. Also to crewz; when he keeps it civil...

I'll be watching all the games with or without AD. Loved watching him, but understand his frustration.

With any luck this will be the wake-up call that Gayle so desperately needs. To quote a board favorite, "Hope is not a plan."

I have faith.

I think Chicago will be heavy on the bidding also...

I've been seeing alot of rumors so far today that the Knicks are going heavy after AD with a deal centered around Knox, Ntilikina and 2-1st rounders

Okay, I missed the Memphis pick. Still they cannot trade their own picks in consecutive future years, so you just turned 2023 to 2022, and the highest pick in the set is heavily protected for the next 2 years.

You apparently don't understand how bad.

so a NYK trade would center around Zion

a BOS trade would center around Tatum I assume

and a PHI trade centers around...Simmons?

Crewz you have been very silent about the lakers assets upside. How do you evaluate them.

Im annoyed by the way lakers are controlling this but I like their young players more than most people do. I think they could have two future all stars in Kuz and Ingram and a future solid pg in ball. He could be a Rubio type talent. What is your take

Their assets suck and they have no chance at landing AD

I don't understand what you're saying. The three picks I am referencing are the SAC pick, the LAC pick and the MEM pick. No one has to trade consecutive picks

Crews... In your opinion, what are the odds Demps and Gentry are retained through all of this? Just got a text from someone who works within the organization, albeit not in basketball ops, that the feeling around the office is they aren’t going anywhere. Gayle and the gang cannot be this delusion or oblivious, can they?

I have never thought they would be fired, because as I have told you all for a long time, ownership is a joke

You guys are all fams of a poorly run franchise that will never have sustainability. Accept that

I'm obviously not MM but imo Zubac, Kuzma, & Ingram are solid as a group. Ingram & Zubac have higher ceilings but I still doubt either would ever be top 25 players. Kuzma is solid but idk how much better he can get then you add the hip.

So in an All-Star driven league, trading with the Lakers does nothing for me. It keeps the team as an 8th seed over the next 5 years. In a vacuum, its not a bad trade. But imo you need a star or at least someone that looks the part.

I've been legitimately concerned they might survive, but the way this happened I don't see how they possibly survive. The fan base will have months to reflect on the end of the AD era, including during the ticket renewal period in March/April.

Also consider that had Demps traded a 1st for a big money player like Conley you limit the flexibility of the next GM which means you limit which GMs are interested in your job. It's not a guarantee that it happens, but this leaking today sets up the potential for change about as high as you can hope for.

Disheartening. I love basketball too much and this shite hurts. As if losing AD isn’t bad enough, those responsible will continue with the team as if things are successful.

ETA: My decision to get rid of my season tickets hurts far less now. That money will be well spent elsewhere.

I fear that Demps & Co will survive too only to watch this cycle repeat.

Pelicans get a star (CP3, AD, Zion via trade w/NYK). Management fails put players around him. Player blossoms. Then requests a trade.

Rinse. Repeat
