Just thinking about the thread asking whether AD will finish career and the fire Monty threads. It's been mentioned before but I do wonder how AD and Monty's relationship fits into the equation.

Just from my casual observation and hearing AD's occasional comments it seems to me that they're fairly tight and have a good relationship. AD was 19 when he came in and, no doubt, attached himself somewhat to his coach.

Absent a repeat of this season, it seems that it would be tough to get rid of Monty next year if AD really likes the guy and wants him to stay. It may not be an issue at all, but just something to think about.

Winning is all that matters. CP3 was tight with Byron, does anyone think he'd still be here if Byron was?

I don't know Monty needs a gifted assistant coach who knows offense to help bail him out.

AD and Monty do seem to have a very good relationship.

I mean they were fricking chest-bumping after AD drilled that potential game-winner last night.

No doubt winning is the most important thing. Another season like this one and the relationship could be strained. I guess I'm thinking that some of the fans have or will be giving up on Monty while AD still is in his corner.

And I agree that Monty could use some upgrades among his assistants.

Monty knows without AD his arse is history. He probably rubs AD's feet down after games and washes his Bentley.

We didn't even have an owner. That was probably a bigger issue than coach for CP3.

If we had Benson as owner, had David West and kept Byron Scott, there is slim chance he would have stayed.

Our offense has actually been a bright spot since Jason went down (for the most part). I'm much more impressed with the movement on that side (especially lately with BRob not focal pointing the attack).

The formula is pretty clear on what it takes to keep a star. I do think VOR is right and if you fire Monty and miss with his replacement you've possibly alienated AD some. That doesn't mean you don't fire Monty, that just means his replacement better produce. That is part of why I think he stays. Karl will produce but his age makes him a stop gap. The other names that have come up are either unknowns or different flavors of Monty.

need to add chandler still being here. If you kept those core 3 together and built around them properly, I think one of them would be here still.

Does anyone mess with the fark board? it would be cool to see what they could do with the AD/Monty chest bump.

This is the only thing I can think of that gives me pause with getting rid of Monty. Not sure if it's enough to keep in around, given his weaknesses, but the team (minus Tyreke maybe?) seem to buy in on him. Firing Monty and not hitting a home run on his replacement would be disastrous. It's really only the fear of Avery Johnson (or someone similar) coming here and making things worse that has me okay(ish) with Monty being back next season.

What about hiring Carl to mentor Monty?

AD will be a Bull at some point in time, that's how the NBA CBA works

I think winning is more important than his relationship with Monty. Seeing as Monty is a road block to this team's success, that is far more important. Furthermore, it's not like we don't have control of AD long term, unless he wants to give up a ton of money.
