I mean they are under the tax threshold they were targeting at this point from the Powell deal.

And reportedly are still committed to winning with Lillard.

Only way that sort of squares is if Powell was just step one and Portland will ultimately bring back players they view as being able to change it up and maybe raise the ceiling.

But only one on the Knicks that makes sense with is Randle

Me thinks this is Portland throwing a fit we took Jaxson off the table.

At this point in the timeline anything that's not a woj/shams bomb is a leak by a team trying to manipulate things. I'm not saying there haven't been Randle for CJ talks, just that us hearing about this is more likely a reaction to something, not a precursor to something.

Theyre only emerging because we pulled out of talks and will be getting Fox and Huerter

Two big Pels-related notes here:

1) The Knicks are "emerging as a legitimate trade suitor" for CJ McCollum

2) Valanciunas & Herb are "off limits" but Hart could be moved (no mention of Graham as part of the core or as a likely trade candidate)

Lots more good info at the link:

Mason pulled snippets from Marc Stein article. Its behind a paywall so thats all i have

I have to think the math has changed a little in the last week.

* Add Jaxson to the rotation.
* Add Buddy or Huerter.
* Remove Temple and Clark from the rotation.
* Reduce minutes from NAW and Graham.
* Win a lot more games.

Graham being part of the core, or this vital piece we must see if he works with Zion because Griff hand picked him always seemed like fan fic more than any reality.

Graham was the fallback of a fallback of a fallback of a fallback of a fallback. Hard to imagine he is some untouchable piece, especially after such a mixed showing.

Yea Graham was never part of any future plans long term. At least as a core piece.

Yeah, i dont see Graham as untouchable as he was to start the year with the emergence of Jose.

Say we trade for Fox, send Sacramento Hart and Graham, that brings in Fox and still leaves minutes for Jose.

We then can still flip picks for Huerter, and have Sato and Temple salaries to bring in another shooter (Fournier works with their salary).

Theres alot more flexibility with the addition of Graham to deals

I don't see Temple going anywhere unless they really need his salary. He's a local and has embraced the veteran mentor role. He was brought here to retire even if he shouldn't get minutes.

I dont think he has ever been untouchable tbh.

I mean we have him because after trying to get Lowry and CP3 and failing, then trying for Dinwiddie, and failing, then trying to get Powell or Hardaway Jr, and failing, we went for plan F, which was Graham.

I would imagine he and Hart are valued in about the same way at this point, guys you'd like to keep but aren't going to remove from trade negotiations if it can net you an upgrade at a role of need.

I think for at least until this off-season that Jax needs to be untouchable as well.

If he keeps doing what he’s doing then this off-season he will have real legit value that we can then decide to keep or trade, but we won’t get proper value for him in the next few days.

Why would the Kings want Graham?

I honestly dont know how you make a deal for CJ with how many guys we are claiming are untouchable?

Especially if Randle for CJ is on the table?

Portland, by all accounts, is still committed to winning with Lillard, so whatever goes back has to be in service of that to some extent.

And of the guys they would probably want outside the untouchables of Zion/BI/Herb(and reportedly Val): Jax, Hart, and Trey. Maybe Graham as back up for Lillard.

does any of those combos beat Randle? Maybe Jax and Hart, but is Griff willing to give Jax up after his black sheep may be looking like something special?

Can someone refresh my memory on Hart's contract? Is it that it can basically be voided by either side each year?

It’s 3 years, the first year is guaranteed, second year team option I believe and the third is player option

So it’s practically an expiring contract for 3 years

I thought there was something in it like it was non-guaranteed so even though it was a player option the Pelicans could void it anyway.

They would have basically just Haliburton and Mitchell after trading Fox, Graham would give them a bench guard to backup both of them.
