I didn’t get it a first either but I think the speculation is that Miami has a variety of ways to clear the money and Toronto might want Goran in a ST. Wink wink nudge nudge

A Dragic sign-and-trade would need to include assets -- such as draft picks and/or young players -- to incentivize Raptors' involvement. TOR could decide to keep Dragic, or work a buyout, save money and allow him to play elsewhere. Free agency starts Monday at 6, it's all fluid.

Lonzo/Klutch work on deal with Chicago that has a poison pill.

If you're not spending $30 million on Lowry it's hard for them to add much poison. I had been speculating loading it with unlikely incentives to push us close enough to the Tax Apron that it blows up a Lowry S&T. But since that's not happening all they can really do is make it fewer years or more player options than you'd like but nothing really poisonous

Poison Pill contracts used to refer mostly to Arenas Rule deals where an unintended consequence of helping teams match big offers on 2nd round picks on short contracts that blew up created some poisonous contract structures. Those issues have largely been changed now though.

This is why it doesn’t make sense to me. They didn’t need Dragic for space for Lowry, and if they have to include assets with Dragic, then it really doesn’t make sense. They aren’t opening anymore space by including Dragic. I guess unless they have a high end target for the MLE that they’ve already agreed with, and that they are willing to give up assets for.

Heat obviously did it for a reason. That’s a smart FO that does everything for a reason.

This is the best news I've seen all weekend. Not landing Lowry is the best thing that could've happened to us.

Now we can move on to targets that makes sense. We should call Indiana and not hangup the phone until we have a deal done for Brogdon.

Dinwiddie commenting on a tweet about Lonzo's stats vs his... Not sure what to make of this

Before looking at the tweet I thought it might have been about Dinwiddie wanting to defend himself as the better player. But the stats show he’s the better playmaker. Trolling about coming to NOLA being a done deal fits the tweet.

That's what I'm thinking, but also, would he be trolling or would it be true?

I have a feeling the reports about him being the backup target to Lowry are true.

Replacing Ball with Dinwiddie would be almost a worst-case scenario IMO.

This is why I never like Dinwiddie. He would be toxic af here on Twitter with the trolling and immaturity.

#Hornets are not extending a qualifying offer to Malik Monk, making him an unrestricted free agent, per league sources. Monk's time with Charlotte is done.

Monk set to hit FA. Could be a good backup guard, hit the 3 at 40% last year on 5 apg

I think he'd be trolling because it was true. If he were a better shooter there'd be a lot less concern over him as Plan B. He is one of the few available options that is good at driving to the basket which is one of the core skills we need.

Precisely why I would want him, I'm not too worried about the shooting until the last minutes of the game, but then you put 3 shooters on the floor, have Zion at the 5, and run P&R after P&R to close out the game, it could be lethal. If a team decides to fade inside, kick out to Ingram, NAW and your 3rd shooter (whoever that maybe), and burn then for the 3.

Lonzo's fear of driving to the basket hurts every part of his game, and his inconsistencies shooting the ball allows teams to sag off of him when they can tell in the first 5 minutes of a game if he's going to hit them that night or not. Pretty much if Zo isn't hitting the 3, he's useless in the half court, which is a BIG reason I don't wanna pay him what he wants.

In addition to its increasingly promising pursuit of Kyle Lowry, Miami has been exploring pathways for acquiring Lowry's former teammate and free agent-to-be DeMar DeRozan as well, league sources say.

Seen this also, to pay both of them you'd have to think they would need to S&T Duncan to create enough salary.

Duncan to Spurs at 22 million, Dragic to Toronto would have just enough salary for them to hand 25 million a year to Lowry and Derozen.

I’d rather have Robinson than Derozan.

The players wouldn't have to go to Toronto and San Antonio. For instance, Dragic could be sent to Dallas and Duncan to New Orleans and Toronto and San Antonio receive future seconds. Front offices are routinely willing to S&T their players to their destination of choice if they don't have to take back negative assets. This is especially true in the case of players like Lowery and DeRozan, who are consummate professionals.

I would to, but I don't really see any other way they could make salaries work, unless they have someone that loves Nunn enough to give him a sizeable deal, or Oladipo.

Then they would have the hard cap they would have to start taking into account, with Butler at 36, Bam at 28, Lowry and Derozen at 25 each, those salaries alone would have them only 28 million from the hard cap line (assuming 142 hard cap).

They would pretty much have no choice but to lose Duncan, unless Lowry and Derozen take 20 million or less (unlikely imo)
