Its probably a mixture of both.

Al Horford spoke about Atlanta crowd being like an away crowd playing for all those years.

They’re not bandwagon fans. Lakers, Cowboys, Steelers, Yankees, etc...all have national followers.

U, Serious Clark?

You thought enough to comment in a Pels Talk thread and can’t even get the team’s name right and get offended when called out on it?

You must be a huge fan.

Yes. Bandwagoners who cling to historical winners.

Okay pal. Those franchises don’t have national followings because they are winners.

Neither does Duke. All that merchandise and high ratings are from alums.

Well the Steelers do. The other three, not so much.

I guarantee you that the type of people who are from NOLA but who are Lakers fans vote Democrat at a 20:1 clip. Regardless of race, income, etc.

They are sheep who are blinded by celebrity, media coverage, and what they percieve to be glitz.

Notre Dame football also has a huge national following and haven’t won a title since 1988. So your statement about bandwagons and winners is irrational.

My god, you can’t be so obtuse, can you?

ND has a big following for 2 reasons.

winning- yes there are still people alive who remember ND dominating. It also helps that the news media still typically overrates them, when they are good.

Catholics also are pre-conditioned to pull for ND.

But it’s mostly about the storied tradtiton of winning.

To pretend otherwise to refute my orignial statement is illogical.

Winning brands have legion of fans. There are exceptions like the lovable loser Cubs.

This is not the hill to die on, my friend.

You’re just delusional about national fan bases. People love certain teams across this country regardless of their records.

I was a huge Lakers fan in the 80s as a kid. Will always cheer for that team

Same. Grew up watching the Showtime Lakers, Nick Van Exel, Shaq, Kobe.

See no reason not to root for them

Lakers have had success in every decade thus a large amount of bandwagon fans

Pels need consistency to win over the casual fans.

Some of you are remedial. You do realize that Louisiana went a loooooong time without having a basketball team right?

From 1979 to what, 2001, 2002? I guess if you aren’t 50-60 years old that you shouldn’t be a fan of any other team outside of Louisiana even though we didn’t have a team here?

On the flip, just because a team moves to our state, this doesn’t mean that everyone has to all of a sudden be all in on them. Look at the chargers moving to LA for example. Most of LA hates them lol.

This pretty much. In jr high / high school, I grew up a Lakers fan. They were always on TV. Eddie Jones, Van Exel, Ceballos. Hell you could play with them on NBA Jam haha. There was no Louisiana team to root for. The only other team I saw on TV really was the Bulls on WGN 24/7.

That being said. I pull for the Pels win they play anyone not the Lakers.

Wrong. I grew up a ND fan too. Why? They were ALWAYS on TV. It just so happens it was that way for duke for me as well. I grew up watching Grant Hill and co. I moved to California when I was 15. I was still a Norte Dame fan. I really didn’t even know LSU existed til DiAnardo offered me a scholarship.

Now kids that are starting to watch football or whatever sport around the house are going to gravitate to whatever team their peoples are watching. My newborn daughter just came home in an LSU onesie lol. She will grow up around us loving LSU football.

It’s all about when you start watching and how it happens. Someone can be a fan of a team without being a bandwagon fan.
