1. The Thing That Should Not Be
2. Orion
3. The Call of Cthulhu
4. The Four Horsemen
5. Blackened
Covers:
1. The Prince*
2. Breadfan*
* Were both slated to appear on "Justice" but, as James said..."lost something along the way" and didn't make the final cut, so they were released as a 45 Single as Breadfan/ The Prince, and I actually owned a copy of the record at the time (89)
...Mommy, where's Fluffy? is supposed to be the Intro to "The Prince" not the outro to "Breadfan"
Kirk's solos on both are amazing examples of what he had at the time.

Load and Reload had some great groves and riffs if you look deep.

I never knew this. I adore Breadfan.

No need to look deep - they are transparently great albums. The unthinking hate for them is preposterous.

Eye of the beholder is their most underrated song. Hasn't even been listed here yet. So many great riffs in that one.

Agree. I absolutely adore it.

True. Like many Metallica fans, I bought both records on their respective release dates, gave them a spin, and quickly dismissed them as shite. Years later, I started listening to them again and started liking both albums. I can't say that about St. Anger. I'll never listen to that garbage again, ever.

Wow. My exact list minus Trapped. Would have Blackened instead. Shortest Straw is a great underrated song by them. Great riff and even better drumming. Hit The Lights has my favorite Hammett solo ever: unrelenting and just keeps going on and on.

Fade to Black
One
Four Horsemen
Master of Puppets
Battery
I'm loving all the respect of post Black album stuff here - it gets shite on too regularly on this board by douches that are closed minded.
But yeah frick St Anger that's the worst piece of shite I've ever heard. Doesn't exist in my mind.

frick, man.
This is a gem I overlooked.
another one that gets overlooked and I will give honorable mention to here is
Leper Messiah
Oh, and Dave Mustaine says "Your welcome" for Jump in the Fire...he also claimed HE came up with the idea for a song called Leper Messiah (from Bowie/Ziggy Stardust) but Burton/Hetfield actually wrote it.
I'm seeing alot of Cliff in these lists...I know he had written alot of "To Live is to Die" and the quote from Merlin (Excalibur, 1981) I could see him repeating:
when a man lies...
