Your Favorite Guitar - Tone and Looks
Posted on 7/29/12 at 6:09 pm

It's a subjective topic, but everyone has a different taste in guitars, especially those that play. Some like the classic look of a Les Paul, some like the sleek look of a Telecaster.
What's yours?
If I'm going tone, Fender Strat. Bell tone, bright, clean, note clarity... and well, most of my heroes play or played them.
When it comes to aesthetics and the look of a guitar, I'll branch out a bit.
Duesenberg Mike Campbell ed.
Gibson ES- 335
Can't go without including Duane Allman on a SG. I know he played on a Les Paul a lot, just prefer him on this.
And IMO, the most beautiful guitar - Gibson L5

A telecaster is hard to beat

Any relic Fender - Strat or Tele, has to be one of the coolest looking instruments there is.
On my Sunburst Strat there are a lot of chips in the paint, so it's getting that worn out look to it. I love it.

Tone- legit early 60s strats. Can't beat em.
Runner up is epiphone casino. I have a soft spot for them. Barely beats out an ES335 for me.
Acoustic- old Martin 00s.
Looks- again, legit 62 strategy with nitro sunburst finish.
Runner up- ampeg Dan Armstrong.

The "Red Special". Built by May & his Dad.
One of the most clean, dirty, comforting, blistering sounds in rock.

I'm a big fan of old worn out guitars.

Electric: strat all day everyday
Acoustic: any Taylor 14 ce, 300 or higher. Love their standard cutaway look, not as big a fan of Venetian style though.
On phone. Can't post pics. Oh well

For electric I am a big fan of pre '70 Les Pauls, those are likely my favorite for tone especially when playing slide.
Runner up for me would be a good Telecaster, IMO one of the most underrated guitars in history.

And the Gibson ES-355. Theres a special place in my heart for Lucille:

This one in particular, Would have the most "mojo" of any guitar Hank williams passed down to JR who traded it to Young for a shotgun in the 70's

Les Paul standard or custom.
I do love using the neck pick up on a strat, but the bridge pickup on an LP is untouchable when rocking out.

Impressive.
Love the Duesy Mike Campbell model. Rickenbacker should have given him a sig model though.
I have a Strat Deluxe HSS,a G& L tele w/ P90s,and Martin M-36 and a Gibson J-45TV
For looks and general dream guitars:
58 Les Paul Jr. TV Yellow
And "Fano" makes works of art.

TV Yellow
...is my favorite color!
For those of you who don't know, it was the color things were painted when they were supposed to be seen as white on a black and white TV. White objects appeared too bright.

For acoustic:
Old Gibson Southern Jumbo's, J-45, Country Western, etc
and, of course the pre-WW2 scalloped braced/forward shifted/rosewood dreadnought (Martin/Collings/Bourgeous/SantaCruz/etc)

I don't know about sound, but it doesn't get much more beautiful than this.
