Worst Era of Mainstream Radio Music?

good charlotte, simple plan, new found glory and all of those horrible shitty bands.
They were always shitty. I remember hearing all of that crap and just thinking that music had hit a low. I despised every person who listened to them.
That was an awful 5-7 year era.

Yeah, no doubt. They were riding the coat tails of Blink 182, Green Day, and Jimmy Eat World, who all peaked 5+ years earlier.

Agree with all bands you mentioned however there are two songs from that period and genre that I jam to this day.

I don't think mainstream is that terrible at the moment. Yeah, there is some shite you have to sift through like nicki minaj and kesha but adele, taylor swift, bruno mars aren't horrible. Even if you don't like them you can't say its bad more than its just not for you.

I'd rather casually listen to those bands than any on current mainstream radio. There's some really great music out there, but we live in an era of cultural shittiness that's unparalleled.

So, after doing 5 minutes of research, and skewing facts to fit this argument...it turns out 2002 was the year that nearly killed music forever. However, 2003 may have brought it back from the brink of death.

Being forced to listen to WTIX AM back in the 70's on my way to school with my cousin, I would have to say that time, the music was terrible, but I will admit to hearing something from that time and getting nostalgic, but you wouldn't hear anything really good on AM radio during that time

Fair enough. I don't like bruno mars, swift or adele. However I can't classify it as poor mainstream music. I just don't like it.

I think Adele can be one of the all-time greats. She obviously has the vocal talent, and she writes most of her own songs. One or two more albums with even a hint of the success and quality of 19 and 21 will cement her in the "Pantheon". IMHO.

Once payola hit in the early 70s, the quality of music broadcast went down.
Don't underestimate how horrible music playing on the radio in the 70s was. It was light rock and disco, with your occasional rock station. It was the exact same type of contrived shitty music you hear now.
In some ways, radio is better these days b.c at least you have an alternative station in every market. That was not the case in the 80s.
Once payola hit in the early 70s, the quality of music broadcast went down.
