THis. IMO he squanders his talent on a bunch of milquetoast crap that borders between "adult" music and teen oriented shite. You can't be serious. Cannonball is 100% a pop song. It is a verse/chorus catchy song that blew up on the radio. Would it do well on today's radio? I dunno. But pop is just short for popular. It took off on mainstream radio and put him on the map. Frank Sinatra was pop. Matchbox 20 was pop. There are plenty of genres that were also considered pop music. Don't be dumb.

Yes to continue getting checks from his label and huge tours he puts out simple pop music. He doesn't squander any talent with the trio or a lot of his rarer songs. It's like all you've heard is body is a wonderland. That's where all of this goes back to. Terrible song, but you gotta look past that shite if you want to see his songwriting skills

Jason Isbell is the man. Great country songwriter, but I wouldn't consider his music the sort of rock singer-songwriter type. DBT suck without him imo.

Will he go down as the best? That's subjective. However, his overall body of work and talent put him in the conversation. I've seen many people mention Isbell and Ryan Adams as better songwriters, and I'll agree with that. I love both. They aren't near as talented musically as Mayer is though, and his songwriting is being underrated due to some of his pop songs.

Just to name some, and he has plenty of other songs that are lyrically great and INCREDIBLE musically. There aren't many people that can write at an Isbell level, in fact I don't think anyone touches the guy right now. But, Mayer is an extremely talented song writer. He's the total package and extremely diverse. He's covered and crossed all sorts of genres yet still remains relevant. He's one of those that will be remembered long after his prime, same as Isbell, Derek Trucks, Bonamassa, Jack White, Ryan Adams, Gary Clark Jr (I think he will continue to blow up) and a few others. I recommend seeing him live to anyone, or just watch Where the Light Is: Live in La

Continuum - This is in regular rotation. He has one "pop" song on it "Waiting on the World to Change", and even that one is fantastic for a radio friendly song.
Try! (Live) Trio stuff, sick as frick. Steve Jordan on drums and Pino Palladino on bass
Where the Light is (live)
Born and Raised - Most different, but excellent. Fits into that Ryan Adams genre, has a Heartbreaker vibe to it.
