And it’s gonna be my son’s first time seeing them. I think I’m even more excited about that. He’s absolutely jacked. Been wanting to see them for some time and he’s been pushing for this show for months now. He’s 24 but hasn’t had a great opportunity to see them yet. I also consider myself very lucky that he still wants to do things like this at his age with his dad.

We have floor tickets and he said he wants to do it like I did it with my buddies back in the day, so we’ll be driving up Monday and getting out there early in the day Tuesday.

Should be a great time. Can’t wait.

Glad you are going. It’s going to be a great experience. We need a full review. They have been throwing out some deep cuts so hopefully you get a Leper Messiah or Hit the Lights.

That sounds awesome man. It's great when your kids get old enough to do shite like this. My parents were never much into going to see live music, so I missed out on it. Didn't even see a real concert until I got to LSU.

Enjoy it.

Yeah I’ve been comparing the setlists of the single-night shows. There have only been three to this point on this leg: Syracuse, Blacksburg and two nights ago in Landover. First two songs have been Creeping Death and For Whom the Bell Tolls at each show. Third song has been different each night but all from the 80’s. Hit the Lights in Syracuse, Ride the Lightning in Blacksburg and Leper Messiah in Landover. Chronological by album

I don’t think anything they do is by coincidence so I’m expecting the third song to be from Justice. Hoping for Blackened or Harvester.

Also, songs 4 and 6 were King Nothing and Screaming Suicide for Syracuse and Blacksburg but those were swapped out in Landover for The Memory Remains and If Darkness had a Son. So thinking we may get those two as well.

9 through 16 have been the same for every single-night show and nothing more recent than Fuel.

Song 3 is one I’ll be excited to hear since we don’t know what it will be.

ETA: Much later edit… Yeah Hetfield. Likely neither Blackened nor Harvester would be considered deep cuts so, could be a different song from Justice. I do expect song 3 to be from Justice though.

Thanks man!! I plan to.

Yeah my Dad was born in the 20’s and HATED my taste in the 80’s. When I was young when we were in the car he subjected me to the elevator music on WQXY.

BR folks, IYKYK

Needless to say, we never attended concerts together.

Thanks dude. I think you’re right too. Gonna be a longtime memory for him. Me too but hopefully much longer for him.

I’ll be there. Saw them at MB Stadium last time here and they played great (Lars is a bit slower tempo these days but understandable at their age) but last time the openers were lame. Greta van fleet I think. It was more Zeppelin esque than a metal show. And when Metallica started (I was on the floor) everyone was just standing there. I was like WTF this is lamest crowd ever.
This time Suicidal Tendencies and then PanfrickingTera will have the crowd jacked.
They always start a set with a throwback. I remember them starting Hit the Lights when I saw them in the 90s. Last time I think it was Whiplash. Hopefully they play Fade to Black. That solo from Kirk is one of my faves ever. So awesome to see live as well.
Enjoy the show. Hope the crowd is energized for yall down there. Don’t be scared to get in some pits. Pantera will be more intense (as it was two years ago when they came) but so damn fun.

Creeping Death should be the opener unless they throw a curveball.

Haha. My son may hop in but I’ll be 60 in less than a year. My moshing days are pretty much behind me. I do say never say never. If the beers are going down really good I hop in occasionally. It’s RARE though.

ETA: The round stage tends to lessen the ferocity of the crowd a little bit. At least in my experience. Plus us long-timers are old as hell now. Won’t be like the 80’s.

Impressive. I got two. Black album and then Death Magnetic. I was too young in the 80's to go see them in the time when they were at their best (My Opinion). I had a chance to see them during Justice, but my friend lied about having the tickets. We were like 12 years old.

Damn!! With friends like that who needs enemies?

Justice tour was definitely their peak. ‘89 in Biloxi is my #1 best concert I’ve ever seen. Nine days before the Seattle show was filmed for Binge & Purge and it was just like that video.

The last Metallica show at the dome (maybe 2021?) was really bad. I pray they try this time.

I’m also curious if Phil from Pantera is gonna be ok after he realizes ATL is a black Mecca.

ST will be as amazing as always.

I’m jealous Jax. That’s going to be some great memories with your son. I have been saying for years that I’m going to get to another Metallica show and just haven’t made it happen. Haven’t seen them since the early 90’s with GnR in the Dome. I was on the floor near the rail for that and it was freaking awesome. Enjoy…can’t wait to hear about it.

Thank you brother!

Yeah I think some good memories will be made.

I’ll be back to tell how it was. Not sure if I’ll video any full songs like I usually do a few times per show due to the stage setup and because there will be hundreds of others up on youtube I’m sure. Will play that one by ear.

Just FYI ST starts at 6 and Pantera at 7. You def don’t wanna miss Pantera. Saw this lineup when they first toured two years ago and sounded awesome.

Appreciate that.

We’ll be in line by about noon and going in when doors open at 4. Definitely won’t be missing anybody.

Ha wasn’t even thinking when I first read your post I was like oh they’re coming in hot (like the show was today not tomorrow) that’s why I said that. Enjoy your night in ATL tonight. Plenty of great restaurants and bars (not downtown tho either go to West Midtown, or Midtown neither are far from downtown and enjoy some libations )
I’ll be in the 300 level tomorrow. Won tix on local sports radio station so can’t really complain. Looking forward to another old man Metal show! ??
