Why do you enjoy music?

What is about music that makes you listen to it?
What do you get out of it?
What is it about a song that you enjoy?
I love music but I can't really quantify why.

There's very little as awesome as hearing a new song that you love. That's why I love it, and that's why I will always listen to new music.

For different reasons. Sometimes just for a relaxing night with a little jazz or R&B. Rock as a pick me up or get in a party mood. In the car just to hear something new or different and take my mind off the traffic or commute.
But the real reason I enjoy music is the artistry, a good tune will strike an emotion, that's art.

I enjoy most art forms but music is the one that I like best. Something in my soul resonates with the music. I love the idea that a person can feel an emotion, express it in some artistic way and make you feel that emotion too.

Like the other poster said. I love discovering new music I like. And when the music and the lyrics hit just right I get chills and it's awesome. Music makes everything more enjoyable to me, kinda like beer I guess lol.

It makes every single aspect of life better. Every situation. Every moment. It's all better with music.

Whatever mood I'm in at the time, listening to music reminds me that other people have felt the same way. Makes you realize that while everyone is different, we're all so similar at the same time when it comes to certain parts of life.

I have ADD, and in middle/high school I discovered that music(and pot) would shut my brain off for a period to the point that I could actually relax. My mind was always going 100 mph, and it lead to some anxiety/depression issues. Listening to music was an escape from that. This coincided with being introduced to "alternative" music in the late 80's - stuff not played on the radio. The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, early Talking Heads, etc.
It's still sort of an escape for me, though I don't really struggle with anxiety or depression anymore. Now it's just an escape from the daily work/family grind.

The sounds. Gotta love great sounding instruments. Makes you feel good. Nothing like guitars, drums and keyboards working together to create great sounding songs with lyrics sung to intensify the melodies and meanings.
Older songs give you nostalgia, brings you back to those times. Always good to reminiscence. New songs are an adventure for new sounds and perspectives.
At least that's how I feel about it.

It soothes the savage beast.
Sometimes you just gotta hear a G chord going KARANG through a Marshall Super Lead.
Sometimes you gotta hear Satchmo scattin'.
Sometimes you gotta hear Don Rich twanging that silver sparkly Telecaster.
Sometimes you gotta hear Django gypsy jazzing.
There are thousands of reasons.

hard to quantify but it definitely evokes a feeling and being able to decide what type of music you want to listen to at any given time is amazing.
sometimes i want to chill with a bourbon or a nice big cup of coffee and put on some miles davis or esquivel and sometimes i want to rock out in my car on the way home from work to something heavy or if i'm going out with the little lady we might want to listen to something crazy energetic to get the vibe going.
some of my favorite memories are my This Mortal Coil and Cocteau Twins cassette tapes and the 3 1/2 hour drive from Baton Rouge to Monroe while I was going to school.

Better than any pharmaceutical medication ever could.

Cause it's magic when the music is groovy.
Makes you feel happy, like an old-time movie.
