Sturgill Simpson has what it takes to potentially save this genre, but the people that run this country are too stupid to realize it. Brenn Hill is another one. Check out a song of his called "Last of the Red Rock Riders".

If you like Merle, check out Jason Eady. He won't blow you away, but he has a very similar style to Merle (minus the 40 years of hits and being the greatest musician if all time).

frick Eric Church. "Drink in my Hand", "Like Jesus Does?" That guy's real country like a plastic bouquet is real flowers.

sorry to bump an old thread.

I've heard the name a lot but never checked him out. Someone mentioned him in a podcast thread so I decided to give him a listen. Took me a couple listens, but I am impressed. Seems like he really has some amazing talent. I like his mix of Outlaw Country and trippy distortion stuff, it works.

I feel like he's holding back on a lot of tracks though, it seems like he has more in the tank than he's letting out. Hope he takes it to the next step. I really like his cover of The Promise.

I don't think I saw Ryan Bingham listed either.

You are going to get the country haters coming out of the woods for this haha.

I like Will Hoge, Frankie Ballard, Aaron Watson, Jon Wolfe, Dustin Lynch, Tyler Farr.

wow i'm proud of this board

the answer is Sturgill

he's incredible. I like Jamey Johnson a lot too.

I wouldn't classify Isbell in this category, but he's pretty much my favorite. I think he has surpassed the Drive-by Truckers, and I can't wait to hear his new album.

You started SO strong with Will Hoge...then you list the dude with one of the creepiest and potentially rapiest songs ever? Not to mention that it just plain sucks.
