I wasn’t alive when he was but damn the man was a hell of an artist, I would think he would be considered up there with Alan Jackson and George Strait. What do y’all say?

I think he wouldn't be in the same class as George Strait.

Randy Travis maybe. Self abuse took its toll on Randy. Or Whitley would have just died another year later.

He was a train wreck. He was bound and determined to self destruct.

He was really good. I think he'd be winding it up about now. Still good, but kind of in the same class of Alan Jackson, George Strait... someone like that.

Keith Whitley would be in the same category as Randy Travis, Ricky Skaggs and Vince Gill. Brilliant and talented artists who were too country for country.

Whitley was a much better singer than Randy Travis

Keith Whitley is prob my favorite country artist. The wife and I danced to. “When you say nothing at all” at our wedding.

You never really know. Keith’s story is tragic but that’s part of the reason he’s so loved. In my opinion he’d be closer to Alan Jackson than Randy Travis in the terms of greatness had he’d stayed alive. He was not just an alcoholic, he was alcohol addict. He would drink hand sanitizer and mouth wash. There was only one way his story was going to end.

Fantastic musician/singer. Had the business by the nuts, and OD's On booze 1 day, with hits on the charts.

I'm No Stranger To The Rain,is up there with my all time favorite songs.

I agree with prior posters who said Alan Jackson level. Maybe arguably the greatest if he would have come around about 5-10 years earlier. Boy band pop was beginning to creep in pretty heavily in country music around the time of his death - if my memory serves me correct.

The Band Alabama was huge at that time. I really like those guys, but their success, kind of messed Country Music up.
As I said before, I'm No Stranger To The Rain,is such a great song, but at the music break, whoever was producing, puts in a modulation that sounds just like Alabama. Keith Whitley never would have done it that way. I'm pretty damn sure.

It was a tragedy. Almost every song he put out instantly became a hit.
