It doesn’t.

Ummm???
I'm a little too old to listen to 2000s and 2010s music, anyway. I couldn't pick The Killers out of a police lineup. Mr. Brightside is way overplayed, IMHO.
I can say this - The Killers >>>>>>>>> Imagine Dragons.

I've never been a fan of The Killers...but I do think they did a really nice job on their cover of Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet.
I never understood the amount of airtime devoted to "Mr. Brightside".

It's ok, but it doesn't crack the Top 25. Every basic white girl goes ape-shite for it, though. It's not even my favorite Killers song from that time period (All These Things I've Done).
Some of my favorites from the 2000's:
Blackbird - Alter Bridge
Cochise - Audioslave
Slither - Velvet Revolver
Hearts Burst into Fire - Bullet for my Valentine
Sugar, We're Goin' Down - Fallout Boy
Walking Disaster - Sum 41
Can't Be Saved - Senses Fail
Lay Down - Priestess
Shameful Metaphors - Chevelle
Santa Monica - Everclear
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Niki FM - Hawthorne Heights
Last Train Home - Lost Prophets (I know he's evil, but damn if this song isn't awesome still)
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Hammerhead - The Offspring
Misery Business - Paramore
Audience of One - Rise Against
Somewhere in the Between - Streetlight Manifesto
Meant to Live - Switchfoot
Make Damn Sure - Taking Back Sunday
Jambi - Tool
Seein' Red - Unwritten Law
Hate it Here - Wilco
The Kill - 30 Seconds to Mars
Ocean Avenue - Yellowcard

Speaking of The Killers, they wrote this song for Robbie Williams and played on it. I keep imagining Brandon's vocals on lead
Damn, you are absolutely right.

I think it’s one of the better songs of the decade.
I think it's one of the better songs of the decade in that I think 50% of 2000's songs are worse.
It isn't close to one of my actual favorite songs of the 2000's, though. It isn't even my favorite Killers song. It's not a bad song, but not great.
For comparison's sake, The Gaslight Anthem's '59 Sound was my favorite rock album of the 2000's.
