'Change" - Blind Melon

I don't feel the suns comin' out today
its staying in, its gonna find another way.
As I sit here in this misery, I don't
think I'll ever see the sun from here.

And oh as I fade away,
they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,
Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
But that's okay
they're just afraid to change.

When you feel your life ain't worth living
you've got to stand up and
take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.
And when your deepest thoughts are broken,
keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die.

And as we all play parts of tomorrow,
some ways will work and other ways we'll play.
But I know we all can't stay here forever,
so I want to write my words on the face of today.
and then they'll paint it

And oh as I fade away,
they'll all look at me and they'll say,
Hey look at him and where he is these days.
When life is hard, you have to change.

Make a joke and I will sigh
and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel
and love to me is so unreal

dredg - Same Ol' Road

quote:

All you need is a modest house in modest neighborhood in a modest town where honest people dwelling
Making the cleanest energy for the greenest plants to grow
The richest soil that is drenched with the freshest rain
Then you should sit in your backyard
Watch clouds peak over the tallest mountain tops
'Cause they unveil honest opinions about the stars

Gotta throw some Zappa in here:

Now believe me when I tell you that my song is really true
I want everyone to listen and believe
It's about some little people from a long time ago
And all the things the neighbors didn't know
Early in the morning Daddy Dinky went to work
Selling lamps & chairs to San Ber'dino squares
And I still remember Mama with her apron & her pad
Feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe!

Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day . . .
(Ronnie helping Kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
KENNY'S LITTLE CREATURES ON DISPLAY!

Ronnie saves his numies on a window in his room
(A marvel to be seen: dysentery green)
While Kenny & his buddies had a game out in the back:
LET'S MAKE THE WATER TURN BLACK

We see them after school in a world of their own
(To some it might seem creepy what they do . . . )
The neighbors on the right sat & watched them every night
(I bet you'd do the same if they was you)

Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day . . .
(Ronnie helping Kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
KENNY'S LITTLE CREATURES ON DISPLAY!

Ronnie's in the Army now & Kenny's taking pills
Oh! How they yearn to see a bomber burn!
Color flashing, thunder crashing, dynamite machine!
(Wait till the fire turns green . . . wait till the fire turns green)
WAIT TILL THE FIRE TURNS GREEN!

--"Let's Make the Water Turn Black"

Hum always had great lyrics. The Inuit Promise:

quote:

I took a worn out strand of your cellophane hair and stretched it
Sideways
And though my mind slipped though between the sea with me
My brain stopped working from the cold

I sort of strayed from what we know
So I'll be like you and I'll do what's right
I'll win a love I don't deserve out on the ice tonight
Teach me the bluest song you know

The moon ain't comin' up
And I swear to God tonight it feels like snow
Glad we got your hands warm so my arms can feel like trust again
I can promise true waves when the summer comes

The world still fits the same form we engraved when it all began
Maybe catch a new wave
Feels right

So we ride whales and drag race time
And knock the fires from the traces of trilobite hives
You sleep like God inside her womb
And you see clearly too
The silicon wasteland they left inside my mind

Glad we got your hands warm
So my arms can feel like trust again
I can promise true waves when the summer comes
The world still fits the same form we engraved when it all began

Maybe catch a new wave
We've lost the road now
Inject the charms
And we care for all of ours, we stand in rows now

Transfer alarms
Just like the Inuit with the promise song
Come down and see
Your solvents frozen here on the petal rung

Is all we have to see
Enlarged inside as we espy
The warming sea.
Your breath diffused and never realized

Aside from where the panicked hide
And I
Just a subtle lift
Provider on the other side

"Our band could be your life"

Not just a lyric, but a statement of principles. DIY, summed up in a phrase. Go out and do it. Nothing is stopping you.

One full of good lines:

It to music: LINK

"Railroad Lady"

She's a railroad lady just a little bit shady
Spending her days on a train
She's a semi good looker but the fast rails they took her
Now she's trying just trying to get home again.

South station in Boston to the stockyards of Austin
From the Florida sunshine to the New Orleans rain
Now that the rail packs have taken the best tracks
She's trying just trying to get home again.

She's a railroad lady just a little bit shady
Spending her days on a train
She's a semi good looker but the fast rails they took her
Now she's trying just trying to get home again.

Once a high-balling loner thought he could own her
He bought her a fur coat and a big diamond ring
But she hocked them for cold cash left town on the Wabash
Never thinking never thinking of home way back then.

But the rails are now rusty the dining car's dusty
The gold plated watches have taken their toll
The railroads are dying and the lady is crying
On a bus to Kentucky and home that's her goal.

She's a railroad lady just a little bit shady
Spending her days on a train
Once a Pullman car driver now the brakeman won't have her
She's trying just trying to get home again.

On a bus to Kentucky and home once again...

I linked to the performer that did the song the most justice, IMO.

I'll give Jerry Jeff & Jimmy their due though.

Hum was a slice of heaven back in the mid 90's. I wish they'd do a reunion tour, but no way they would come down here because LA never showed them the love as others.

My favorite lyrics by them would also be this song.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make. The Beatles

Jackson Browne's " Bright Baby Blues"

It's so hard to come by
that feeling of peace
This friend of mine said
" Close your eyes and try a few of these."
I thought I was flying like a bird
so far above my sorrow
but when I looked down, I was Standing on my knees.
Now I need someone to help me , someone to help me please

THE BANDS ' OPHELIA'

Ashes of laughter , the coast is clear

Why do the best things always disappear

like Ophelia please darken my door

Was it something somebody said?
Honey you know we broke some rules
Was somebody up against the law?

Honey you know I'd die for you

They got your number, scared and runnin'

But I'm still waitin' for the second comin'

Of Ophelia. Come back home..

' You're losing all your highs and lows ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away.'

I can't really say that I have a favorite song lyric or favorite song.

I'll have favorites for a certain time period, then they change, as I change.

too many to quote, but off the top of my head is the one that always sticks with me:

"Don't let your silly dreams fall in between the crack of the bed and the wall" -My Morning Jacket, "Bermuda Highway"

Might as well throw in another one by them from Into The Woods:

"A kitten on fire, a baby in a blender. Both sound as sweet as a night of surrender

(and later in the same song) A good showerhead and my right hand. The two best lovers that I ever had.
" hahaha

and one last doosey from them (yeah I guess they are on my mind right now). From the song Highly Suspicious (which I disliked for the longest time and now really dig it):

"Peanut butter pudding surprise"

I'm done

yeah I miss them. great band. Apollo was woderful as well. He wrote it about being on tour away from his wife. The last line is gorgeous, but only after being setup by the rest of the song:

quote:

I'm thinking of a number between everything and two
She said you can find a space between my arms if you will stay
Like if we ignore the system they'll just blink out and quickly
Go away

She said I'll keep all the signals that you send home to me
And I'll meet you back here on the ground
It's lift off, lift off again
She's pissed off, pissed off again

Moonlight brings me back again to stay
And I know if she had a way I'd always be through
Tethered to a glass ring she keeps beside the phone
And never ever stepping out into

Blankness and darkness, like underneath a leaf, have settled on
Me here and
Scraped away the sound
She said you can find a place inside my heart if you can stay

And I need you back here on the ground
It's lift off, lift off again
She's pissed off, pissed off again
Moonlight brings me back again to stay

And I know if she had a way I'd always be through
Tethered to a glass ring she keeps beside the phone
And never ever stepping out into
I'm thinking of a number between everything and two

Moonlight brings me back again to stay
And I know if she had a way I'd always be through
Tethered to a glass ring she keeps beside the phone
And never ever stepping out into

Moonlight brings me back again this day
And I don't feel a thing here anymore
Strings of information slowing to a stop
The tether's end is slipping from its knot

I'm stretching out in two
I'm thinking of a number between everything and two
And it's molecules of you

A strange kind of love
A strange kind of feeling
Swims through your eyes
And like the doors
To a wide vast dominion
They open to your prize

This is no terror ground
Or place for the rage
No broken hearts, white wash lies
Just a taste for the truth
Perfect taste, choice and meaning
A look into your eyes

Blind to the gemstone alone
A smile from a frown circles round
Should he stay or should he go?
Let him shout a rage so strong
A rage that knows no right or wrong
And take a little piece of you

There is no middle ground
Or that's how it seems
For us to walk or to take
Instead we tumble down
Either side left or right
To love or to hate

Early one mornin’ the sun was shinin’
I was layin’ in bed
Wond’rin’ if she’d changed at all
If her hair was still red
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama’s homemade dress
Papa’s bankbook wasn’t big enough
And I was standin’ on the side of the road
Rain fallin’ on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I’ve paid some dues gettin’ through
Tangled up in blue
