Marty's played for quite a few people. Doc Watson, George Jones, Bob Dylan and Pops Staples are a few others.

Yes, he has played with them and collaborated with them, but I have seen an interview with him (pretty sure it was from the Ken Burns documentary on country music), where he said "I've only had 2 jobs in my life, the first was working for Lester Flatt, and the second was working for Johnny Cash."
He said it, not me.

Childhood friends, Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley, got their start as members of Ralph Stanley's band, The Clinch Mountain Boys. They were only 16 years old.

It took 10 weeks to record She Stopped Loving Her Today, due to George Jones staying too drunk to finish it

... And Peter Green's 59 Les Paul "burst" is now owned by Kirk Hammet. Rumored to have been purchased by Hammet for between $650-800k.

The intro to Van Halen's Hot For Teacher is Eddie's Lamborghini Miura idling ,blended with drums.
The whoosh sounds during the interlude section of Panama is Eddie's Countach being revved.

I would suspect that many Stevie Ray Vaughn fans have never heard some of his best work, on saxophonist Bennie Wallace's album Twilight Time.

Produced by Malcolm "Mac" Rebennack (aka Dr. John), who also contributed the terrific piano.

Honestly it might just be a percussion thing.

Nah. It's a guitar thing too. Been playing for about 10 years and that was one of the first things I learned.
