When you are drunk off of your arse and fresh off of a breakup there isn't much better than Freebird live from the road turned up to 10 with a glass of Knob Creek!!!

ETA: it's One more from the road, not live from the road! 13:30 version is so rad when on the way to being hammered!

Yeah, I wouldn't go that far either with Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked, Crooked Rain out there.

I just think that lyrically, Brighten the Corners is on a whole different level from their other work.

from Transport is Arranged:

I swung my fiery sword, I vent my spleen at the lord
He is abstract and bored -- too much milk and honey
Well I'll waltz through the wilderness with nothing
but a compass and a canteen
Settin' the scenes
Easy walkin' border blockin' transport is arranged

from Starlings of the Slipstream:

There's no women in Alaska
There's no Creoles in Vermont
There's no coast of Nebraska
My mother, I forgot
Slavic princess with a rose in her teeth
Do you suppose she would bite you if she could?
Insane cobra split the wood
Trader of the lowland breed
Call a jittney, drive away
In the slipstream we will stay
Stay away, away, away, away, away, away, away, away, away

from Blue Hawaiian:

If my soul has a shape, well, then it is an ellipse
And this slap is a gift
'Cause your cheeks have lost their lustre

I am a big Malkmus guy and a huge fan of Pavement, Jews & Jicks - so this is splitting hairs for me.

I wouldn't argue that any Pavement albums are better lyrically than BTC,I guess I just normally judge these things more on the overall sound as opposed to zeroing in on the lyrics.

Got a playlist bumping I run to sometimes full of Turpike Troubadors, Ryan Adams (country only), Sturgill Thompson, and Ryan Bingham

I feel ya. I'm just a sucker for lyrics. I'd never argue that the Silver Jews are especially talented musically, but they're one of my favorite bands only because of David Berman's lyrics.

It's a shame about Girls breaking up. I really liked their stuff, especially hellhole ratrace, ghost mouth, lust for life, and forgiveness.
