Musically it's a mess. I don't know what this is supposed to be. For the record I absolutely loved Kids See Ghosts.
In terms of the message, it feels like Kanye using Jesus in some sort of mania fueled attempt to draw even more attention to himself.
Pop culture impact? Some Christians will jack off to it for a brief period of time, other people will listen some because it's Kanye then it will fade into his body of work as a misfire.

Follow God is solid and most up tempo song I've heard from him in a while. On God is a good track and produced by Pierre Bourne. Hands On and Selah are really well done also.
I could see why people would be turned off by the album but there are definitely some good tracks and a sound you won't get from anyone else. I enjoyed it more than ye.

To me it completes the puzzle Kanye has been over past couple years. Musically I think it has some great tracks, albeit some may be an acquired taste. As a Christian, I think Kanye has had a legitimate conversion and made an album to glorify God. And I think he does a great job with that. This will strike the mainstream as odd, but believers can enjoy now having what may just be the most successful artist/album proclaiming the gospel of all time.

If you would have told me a couple of years ago that Kanye would be putting out music that was more overtly Christian than Lecrae I’d have laughed pretty hard at you.

He got Clipse back together for a song. For that, we owe him. Other than that... Meh.
Hard to believe this guy was creative director for the pornhub awards about a year ago.

That’s one way to put it. Or you might say Christians will really enjoy hearing a gifted artist singing about things that mean a lot to them. But let’s not miss a chance to take a pot shot at those idiot Christians.

Thanks I won't. You have to admit that Christians cream their drawers whenever any celebrity makes any allusion of any level to "God." It's all ShUt Up AnD sInG until one of them says God and suddenly they're a righteous visionary who we should all listen to.

Turn on Christian radio. Our music is awful. Can we not have Kanye for an album without referencing us playing with our junk? I’ll say this, I’m usually incredibly suspicious when stars claim the faith. I don’t need stars to validate my faith. I’ve actually been pretty careful on this Kanye thing. But what he seems to be espousing is not some saccharine version of Christianity but seems to be pretty theologically sound. Time will tell. Call it what you want but in the meantime I’m enjoying a great artist singing about a faith that is pretty important to me.

I respect your opinion and I can understand why “Jesus is King” wont appeal to a secular audience. It is too heavy on the God/Jesus stuff and makes it unpalatable.
But as a Christian, I can tell this album is more than Kanye using gospel as a gimmick (that might appeal to some casual Christian listeners) The reason I know that this is more than a gimmick is evidenced by “Selah.” It incorporates multiple biblical references from old and New Testament, citing multiple passages from bible CHAPTER and VERSE, the theme from hymn “amazing grace,” and full on gospel refrain of “Hallelujah!” And it has the old school Kayne feel to it. This song, if you understand the Biblical context, is very powerful.
And that is just one song on the album. If you don’t like it, that’s cool. But don’t bash Kanye for trying to cash-in on some Jesus Lite type stuff, because I can tell you this album has depth and weight.

Time will tell on the authenticity of his Christianity. I, honestly, hope that it brings him peace, because he's been pretty clearly demonstrating signs of fairly profound mental illness for a few years. If his faith is authentic, awesome. I worry, though, that it's yet another manifestation of his bipolar disorder and is going to eventually bring him more grief when he turns his back on it and suffers the backlash.

This. Kanye has been through a lot of phases. He throws himself into something and is over the top passionate about it for a bit. It doesn't usually continue.
I don't wish ill on him. He's a talented guy and he visibly struggles with the bipolar issues. I'm Christian, and if he has truly devoted himself to faith and can better himself through that, more power to him.
The songs off Jesus is King I've heard are mostly good. It's smoother than Yeezus, which I hated. Follow God and Use This Gospel are my favorites. I'm not sure it's a classic album like some of his others, but there are some solid songs.

I mean, it's incredibly obvious that this is what's going on.

Haven't heard any of this stuff, I know he is a very popular singer songwriter.
Jumping off into the religious music, seems like he might be copying Bob Dylan.
Dylan was the top songwriter of his time, when he decided to do a few religious albums.

This was my first assumption. But the more a learn the more I begin to doubt that. There is a depth of understanding of the Christian Gospel and the scriptures that I quite frankly find shocking. I've counseled people having some type of religious psychotic break, this doesn't look like that. Also, the people he is surrounding himself with as mentors aren't religious kooks but people who take a pretty logical approach to faith. I might be dead wrong but this has a look of something other than some kind of mental break. I don't think it is as obvious as you might believe.

I'm not doubting his sincerity. I just think whatever craziness caused him to say George Bush doesn't care about black people or jump onstage and interrupt Taylor Swift receiving an award has found a new outlet in Christianity. Look at me! Listen to me! I'm the best because of xyz. All that's different now is his current stated reason he's the best is Jesus.
Plus he's spouting straight up prosperity gospel stuff which is a perfect fit for him.

I’d be interested in some quotes that are prosperity gospel. The pastor that’s influencing right now graduated John MacAurthurs seminary. Hardly a hotbed of prosperity teaching but i’m open to hearing some quotes.
