quote:

“God is using me as a human being. You know as humbly as I can put it, he is using me to show off.”

Part of that “showing off” includes financial windfall. He explains that he was once in debt, but received an epic amount of money as part of his 2018 tax return.

“Last year I made $115 million and still ended up $35 million in debt. This year, I looked up and I just got $68 million returned to me on my tax returns,” he admitted.

While the intricacies of how West came by these ridiculous numbers is uncertain, one thing is for sure is that he’s more than comfortable talking about his money as part of his testimony.

“And people say, ‘oh don’t talk about these numbers.’ No people need to hear someone that has been put into debt by the system, talk about these kinds of numbers now that they are in service to Christ.”

Corden asks: “So you think your awakening, your spiritual awakening is part of …”

West butts in “my success. Absolutely. He’s showing off. He’s just showing out. Yeezy worth a billion dollars. It’s the number one Google search brand in the world.”

Sure. I was more referencing what is played on the radio. It’s like country, there is good country music but most of it isn’t on modern radio stations.

I wouldn’t define that as prosperity gospel. Saying God has blessed you financially is different than telling people if you turn to God he’ll give you millions too. I believe God sometimes rewards faithfulness with financial blessing. But that his very different than saying of you do X then God will always do Y. I’ll admit if he was saying a lot of this I might would be tempted to say he was going the health and wealth route but this is one paragraph out of a lot of talk that has an orthodox feel to it.

Have you listened to the album? It is worth a listen. I’m saying that because in interviews Kanye can be a bit much. It is just his personality. He’s kind of outlandish. But if you listen to his album, as an artist, his message is much more than what can be gleaned in an interview. He even comes across as humble on a couple tracks. And before I heard this album, I thought Kanye was kind of out there doing some hip hopish cult stuff and completely wrote it off. Then yesterday I listened to the album and I was completely blown away. I don’t expect everyone to have the same experience, but if you are a Christian who studies scripture or even someone open minded to Christianity- “Jesus is King” has a lot to offer.

I’m a huge kanye fan and waited on this a long time, JIK is trash though. Not one solid track and it’s very disappointing based off the yandhi leaks

This will strike the mainstream as odd, but believers can enjoy now having what may just be the most successful artist/album proclaiming the gospel of all time.

Bob Dylan Put out 3 overtly Christian albums in the late 70's early 80's. The first album in that series was Slow Train Coming which reached No.? 2 on the charts in the UK and went platinum in the U.S. reaching No.? 3. Dylan won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 1980 for Gotta Serve Somebody which was his first hit in 3 years.

The next two (Saved and Shot of Love) were not appealing to the secular audience and probably not as good though I liked them.

Ultimately, it looks like Dylan moved away from overtly Christian themes, probably, at least in part, due to the way he was somewhat savaged by many Christian media types.

I have not delved into Dylan’s work, so if what you say is true, and I’m not doubting it, that is truly tragic. Time will tell with Kanye, but the need for a true gospel message and voice is so great, I’m just gong to remain hopeful.

Check them out if you like that style of music. If you ever listened to Third Day and heard the song Saved, that is a cover of a song Dylan did on the album of the same name. The lyrics are great, as is typical for Dylan. Album cover art below:

Also forgot about Hank Williams. He put out several songs that were gospel oriented which were compiled into an album called I saw the light in 1954. Williams wrote what became a standard gospel song "I Saw the Light" in 1947.

I unironically love this record. My connection to God has strengthened with the conception of my first child. This record lifts me up and is fun to listen to. I highly recommend it.

I'm a little blown away at the number of people who are seeing profound doctrine and such within this album.

I mean.. it's fine, but people are acting like Kanye is the next Francis Shaeffer or something. I guess when your alternative is praise music with such profundity as "OUr god is awesome" repeat 10x and conclude with an "Aman Hallelujah" then it's certainly better than that... but come on. It's not some scriptural revelations that he's engaging in.

People claiming Kanye isn't sincere or is cashing in on Jesus , bi-polar, etc need to remember that on his debut album, there's an awesome timeless track called Jesus Walks, that stirred up controversy all those years ago.

It pretty much smacks of prosperity gospel to me, and it's also pretty indicative of the shallow nature of his spirituality, to me. That being said, this line of thinking is pretty dominant in non-denominational churches these days, so it doesn't surprise me that people don't find it offputting. "Yeezy worth a billion dollars..." Great.. now do something with that money that demonstrates some level of piety and desire to help humanity rather than "showing off."

I can’t believe I’m doing this, but to defend Kanye, he and Kim have sunk a lot of time and money into causes the last couple of years. The media won’t report it but he, Kim, and Trump passed some major criminal justice reforms to get non-violent offenders some lighter sentences.

I’m still under the impression that Kanye is bipolar and Kim is vapid but acting like they haven’t done some good for the world is being myopic.

I’m gonna put more stock in what teaching he chooses to sit under than a paragraph in an interview. He’s kind of awkward in interviews anyways. His pastor is Adam Tyson and he’s the real deal and anything but I health and wealth guy. Here is an interview with his pastor about what is going on with Kanye. LINK

I've got tickets. I'm just hoping it isn't a scam by the promoter.

Same here. Isn't the area where the audience will be just a huge grassy area?

Yes. I've just read an article by the baton rouge buisness report detailing the promoter of this event sentenced to prison for fraud. I've reached out to Kanye's management to confirm the validity of this event, but no response yet.
