Darius Rucker singing Purple Rain in Charleston is the one that really stands out to me

Interesting song choice for him. I saw Hootie and the Blowfish back in the day and really thought "Let Her Cry" was their best song live.

Yeah that's probably my favorite hootie song but his rendition of purple rain was on a whole different level

The original version of Reelin' in the Years by Steely Dan (not the swing version they did on Live in America) that they started doing around 2006. My heart skipped a beat when I heard the opening notes.
There are a number of honorable mentions though:
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin PMAC '77
Comfortably Numb - Roger Waters The Wall tour 2010-ish.
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun - Roger Waters DSOM tour
Whipping Post - Allman Brothers Jazzfest 2010
Cause We've Ended As Lovers - Jeff Beck many times

Merle, "My Own Kind of Hat", from the 2nd row. I've been singing that song since my uncle made me learn it in the first grade.
My oldest of 3 children is in the 2nd grade, and they all 3 sing it in perfect harmony beginning to end.

Saw Boston play the Atlanta Omni in 1987.
3rd Encore was "Hitch a Ride". I was crying thinking they would not play it after the second encore.
It was an extended version and it was by far the best performance I have ever seen.
Just unreal. I can remember it like it was yesterday

I know this is going to sound gay, but it was Switchfoot's "Love Alone is Worth The Fight". I know! I know! I can feel the downvotes coming, but hear me out.
The concert had been picketed by a religious group protesting on campus. They barred the entrances to keep Switchfoot out of the venue. There were several scuffles between protestors and fans as well as people who just happened to be in the neighborhood.
Switchfoot ended up not coming on stage until really late because the protesters wouldn't let them in, but after they got on stage and played a couple songs, still visibly agitated, the singer just said, "I think everyone here knows about what's been happening outside tonight, and we don't feel we can continue without addressing it. We just want to tell you no matter what they say or do to you, 'Love Alone is Worth the Fight'".
They took the high road. They turned the other cheek and they poured their hearts and souls into the song and the entire sold out audience connected with it. It was a beautiful moment, a perfect moment of music and humanity.

Built to Spill- Carry the Zero
I've seen BtS four times (fifth coming in June) and it is always their closer and they usually stretch it to about ten minutes. It always delivers.
I am at 12x, and this is not the case. Carry the zero is often in their rotation, but its not at every show. Nor as their encore. I can't think of a song that I have seen at every show. Car is probably the closest but it has not been at every show.
They did do it the last time I saw them. Broken Chairs is often played.
Both are great live.
The best song I have ever seen was spiritualized - Medication on a tab of x. it was transcendent.

Hard to pick one song out of the thousands and thousands, but one that comes to mind immediately is Gideon-My Morning Jacket at Bonnaroo in 2008 in the rain. Was fricking sweet.

instead of starting a new thread I'll just ask you and Seaward in here.
So far I've been introducted to KiLaS and PFNO and I love both of them. Truly "listen start to finish" albums.
With that said, where should I go from here with bts? What album should I listen to next, and are there any that would not be recommended?

I should have worded that better.. I just meant that everytime I have seen BtS the last song before the encore was Carry the Zero. Three of the four times at least, the other time I had a little too much to drink and it is fuzzy. I didn’t mean to imply that every show they ever do ends with it.

Those two are my favorites. But I do like all of their albums. I would go with There’s Nothing Wrong with Love or You in Reverse next.

great thanks.
Also as an aside....anyone ever been to a concert solo before? I really want to see them in June but it's on a Tuesday and I'm already afraid most of my usual concert buddies are gonna pass.

I haven't been to a concert with another person in about 10 years. Just go.

Agreed, just go if you really want to see them.
