What has kept Jamey Johnson from being as big as Stapleton, Isbell and Simpson?

He burst onto the scene with ‘in color’ in 2008 and has seemed to have fallen off since then. Singer-songwriter country has evolved into the three artists listed above. Any idea why Johnson hasn’t capitalized on his ability?

He doesn't seem like the type who wants to be a big star.

He started dating Allison Krauss, and that really changed his life. Stopped writing, and became kind of a homebody, but he did see the success of a Chris Stapleton, and that pissed him off. He's working on a album now.
***All of this is coming from a good friend of his that I know, and this guy is somewhat big on music row.

I had a thread about him a while back or mentioned him in another? Basically asking the same question.
Response I got was that he was an a-hole and disliked by insiders. Don’t know if it’s true or just an “internet fact”?

He also had a falling out with his first record label. He sang about it in one of his songs, Between Jennings and Jones. I don't think he likes the "Recording Artist" lifestyle and business. Seems like a guy that's happiest writing and performing. I have all of his albums and most songs are pretty good. Just not a lot of widespread commercial success, but maybe that's not him. He guested on Dierks and Miranda Lambert's Bad Angel song too.

I didn’t know about his falling out with his first label

I don't know he's one of several artists who haven't received the recognition they deserve. I blame it on the state of pop country music and the dumbing down of the public in general. The masses just want a feel good bullshite song with a beat, not real music with smart lyrics and soul anymore and it's a shame.

He capitalized when he wrote Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. He probably made enough money off that song to build a swimming pool made of unicorn bones.

That Lonesome Song, The Guitar Song, and Living for a Song were all released through Mercury Nashville. He then formed his own label (Big Gassed Records) and released a Christmas EP in 2014.

I loved his music and was lucky enough to see him on the Willie Nelson tour in 2011 I think it was. Would love to hear new stuff from him.

I'm taking a little trip over to Biloxi in April to see Jamey Johnson and Cody Jinks at the Crawfish Festival. Should be a good show. I've seen each of them once in the past year. Both were great times.

The Last Cowboy is such a damn fine song

He wouldn't wear skinny jeans and rap like those other posers

He hasn't wrote or released a new song in like 6 years.
I love Jamey Johnson's music but you got to come out with new stuff to stay relevant.

While I love his music and the type of country singer he is, he is a straight up a-hole at every show I’ve been to over dumb shite. One guy forgot to turn his flash on his phone off and snapped a photo and he was literally about to jump off stage and try and fight this guy and proceeded to cuss him like a dog

Last show of his I went to he seemed like he didn’t GAF about anything. Walked out, started singing his first song pretty much immediately. Ran through the set, then walked off and lights turned up.
He’s talented, but bizarre

He has no new music but plenty of fricking excuses. Personally I’m tired of hearing him bitch and whine.
