I couldn’t have been in high school at a better time because these bands were releasing their first albums and we had never heard anything like them. For what it’s worth, the music sounds even better today. So, a decade from now, when I’m 74, I suppose I’ll still be listening to the Immigrant Song with headphones on.

Led Zepplin
Black Sabbath
The Who
Deep Purple
Alice Cooper
Black Oak Arkansas
Uriah Heep

Brand New was the very height of music for me when I was in high school. And honestly I still think Devil and God is an absolutely phenomenal album and I loved Science Fiction as well

I graduated in 2007 as well and had pretty similar taste in music. Maybe add The Early November and Northstar. Still keep up with some of them - mainly Brand New, Minus the Bear, Manchester Orchestra.

ETA: I was a purevolume junky. Would spend hours trying to “discover” bands and post them to my MySpace before everyone else

I had quite a few of his albums on 8-track. I loved the original 6-piece Utopia but after they pared it down to 4 and changed style to more of a power pop sound, I sort of lost interest.

did you ever listen to the Nazz? An earlier Rundgren project.
