This week:
Mastodon's new record, Marrow Deep. So good and somehwat of a return to form but also an expansion of their sound.
Dinosaur Jr's new record, There Near. A good rebound from their lackluster last full length. Great batch of songs on this record.
Son Volt's new record, Sound Signal Serenades... Also a return to form from their last several albums. Farrar returns to more of that classic Son Volt alt-country/Americana rock sound.
I saw the Dillinger Four play a show in Milwaukee a few weeks ago and have been on a kick listening to their records a lot since then. Such a great show and some of the nicest, best guys in punk rock over the last three decades. Their album Situationist Comedy has been getting the most play.
The Swami John Reis, aka "Speedo" from the San Diego punk legends Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, and Rocket From the Crypt (and a ton of other projects), just put out his second solo record, Navajo White. It's only 8 songs but that guy is one of my musical heroes and everything he touches is gold. Just like his first solo record, Ride The Wild Night, it's more rock and powerpop sounding than it is "punk." But definitely still an edge. Guy creates some of the catchiest guitar riffs ever. The Swami don't make no junk.

I'm listening to a song my brother wrote the lyrics to called, "Morning Sun". Here's the link to the song. He also worked on the melody and arrangements.
After the page opens wait a few seconds and the play button will appear at the bottom of the page. Just tap it and the song will begin.

These particular lyrics are phenomenal.
"Two riders met at midnight.
The first came later.
The other came soon."

Here's the link to another song I'm listening to right now that my brother wrote the lyrics to and composed. The song is called, "Space Brothers of the Universe".
When the page opens wait a few seconds and the play button will appear at the bottom of the page. Just tap the play button and the song will begin.

Nice
But instead of these lyrics:
Flying in from outer space,
Watching over the human race,
Making contact, then disappearing
Without a single trace.
I would have went with
Flying in from outer space,
They want to sit on your face,
Making contact, then disappearing
This cole slaw is a disgrace.

I agree. Those lyrics are much better.
I should have thought of them.

I've got a good idea. You can write your own song with those words included. Let's see how your song sounds.

I'd like to take your brother's song and improve it by adding lyrics that I wrote about sex and picnic food.
I've got a couple more ideas about lyrics that involve attacking, strangling and beating the aliens to death after having my way with them.
Whatya say we write this classic together Dawglovertoo?!?!?

No, you just do it and I'll listen to it when you are finished.
