A lot of their music is not aesthetically pleasing in the traditional sense so that's somewhat understandable

So why do you give Phish fans so much slack for supposed drug use while your little hipster buddies are fostering oxycontin addiction?
Honestly though, hipsters don't have to do drugs to enjoy the bands. It seems like its
Much more part of the jam band culture to do drugs and enjoy a show.

I am not a huge Sonic Youth fan, but Teenage Riot is one of my favorite songs ever.

I don't think so. I'll have to check it out.

Guided by Voices? No way, bro.
I always figured a hipster band to be one who made unoriginal music while copying the image of previous bands.
Since hipsters are easily deceived, they believe the band to be a revelation, and cannot see past them to their influences.
The real GBV stopped making music in 1996, and their work 1986-1996 is a major influence on the real hipsters bands of today.
Perhaps I am wrong.

You are such an idiot. You really think I have to be on drugs to like the music?
Get off your high horse, mon.

Apparently hipsters are all nearing 40 years old. Though I f'n LOVE Archers of Loaf (and Crooked Fingers). This would be a great list for old hipsters who stand in the back and hate the new kids.
But know what those bands still had? Noise. Lots and lots of noise. Too many modern "Pitchfork bands" are way too reserved. Too much from the head, not enough from the, er, gut.

And you are a fricking asshat that ruins every thread you post in.
Now that we're done calling each other names, if the shoe doesn't fit, no need to wear it.

That's what my logic was.

Then you nailed it. Because I was like... man, I really like those bands. That's pretty much my taste (though I'd sub Modest Mouse or Sleater-Kinner in for Guided by Voices).
Old, cranky hispters unite.

Thanks for the link. About to head to lunch, but it will be the first thing I do when I get back.

I also based it on what bands garden the most knee jerk reaction if it's posted on 4chan or reddit.

This is why I feel the term "hipster" is subjective. It's a mindset and fashion statement, it happens that they listen to the music ya'll list in here. However, I can listen to Band of Horses or The Felice Brothers (there's an obscure one for you) but not cross the line and throw someone through the fire and claim "you're not a true fan, you're a pose
Admit it, you focking hate it when a band you like starts becoming popular. Let it out, man.
