1) City and Colour

2) Brand New

3) Modest Mouse

I like all three though so maybe I'm a hipster.

Sonic Youth is the one band I'm "supposed" to like that I really don't. It's been rehashed to death on here, but while I respect Sonic Youth, I like the idea of them more than their actual music, which I think is a chore

This is an interesting topic in and of itself.

I'll go with The Strokes.

Admit it, you focking hate it when a band you like starts becoming popular
For me, it's not that they became popular. It's what they did to become popular. Many times the music that is popular is not really even similar to what was done before. REM's IRS years for example.

Not the phrase I would have gone with.

But sometimes a band becomes popular simply because they're good and that was the way it was gonna be, and the term "sold out" gets tossed around nonetheless. I find that annoying. There are very few examples of bands that sold out. The black eyed peas....now they sold out. And I think the phrase should be used only with these egregious and undeniable examples.

Kings of Leon didn't sell out. Come at me.

I associate hipster with a look more than music they listen too... Most people are just listing indie bands from VU to today..

When I was younger the term was "slacker" hipster is still relatively new..

In one interview, Caleb Followill curiously called "Sex on Fire" "a piece of shite." It sounded like the band had consciously cashed in, regretted the move and was prepared to right the ship and get back to making rock that mattered.

The verdict is still out.

Wow, I guess I'm a hipster... Although, I don't technically think you can be one at 40+ yrs of age...

Maybe it'd be more hipsterish to say, The Grifters were the best band of that generation..

Liz Phair "sold out" admittedly so, she said she was trying to raise a child as a single mother and needed to cash in..

I dont hate her now, but dont buy her music anymore...
