What are some of your favorite Letterman performances?

IMO, Letterman has pretty good music taste, based on the people he has perform and the praise he gives certain performers when they come on (which I think appears genuine in most cases). These are some of my favorites:

i can't think of all of them, so i'll be nearsighted and go from this week with Joh Mayer doing American Pie. It was so damn good.

Incredible performance. Great musicians. Ridiculously charismatic singer with an amazing voice.
Letterman spends a couple minutes before talking about how much he likes this band and how they've been trying to book them for a while. After the performance you can tell how much Letterman genuinely enjoyed the performance and he actually ask for an encore for them to keep playing this song.
This was just a few months ago but for my money it's got to be an all time great.

It's impossible to go back on 30 plus years, so I'll just post a couple of recent memorable performances:
St. Vincent
First Aid Kit--"Emmylou"--Dave loves these girls. Had them on Thursday night. Having them on within the last two weeks of his show says a lot.

Sonny & Cher Reunion 1987
Most of you youngsters won't understand how absolutely MONUMENTAL this performance was. If there was an internet in 1987, this clip would have broken it. Everybody was talking about it the next day. People fondly remembered the Sonny & Cher show from the early 70s, and this brought back a little of that. Those two hadn't performed that song together in years after a nasty divorce. It was also the last time they would perform together. I'll admit, I got a few goosebumps when they started singing.

He's done plenty of better ones than that on Letterman and other talk shows. He's definitely one of my favorite modern artists (hate on), but that song doesn't really fit him.
