The Replacements. God, their final album is terrible. Kicking Bob Stinson out of the band was unconscionable.

That sounds boring as shite. Flea has some amazing moments on i'm with you. Chad is solid as always. Josh is understandably timid but he's been improving as they get more comfortable.
And yes rain dance maggie is the weakest song on the cd but the cd has some great tracks. I listened to it on loop for weeks when it came out.

most bands i like have tried different things, often with favorable results. however, change doesn't mean i'm required to like it, though. if the latest RHCP album blows you away, more power to ya....to me, with a few exceptions, it sounds like rock n' roll mall music.

All Shook Down was a Paul solo record under the guise of a Replacements record...
I like some songs on it, but it is pretty weak...
Bob's story is so sad.. he had to go, but when he did, they lost that edge... They still managed some good records before it all fell apart.. fricking drugs and booze.. you just cant ever know who will be the habitual vs recreational... its russian roulette with your life... kinda..

He's a true 'artist' in every sense of the word and he was the true musical soul of that band from the time he joined. I just don't see Klinghoffer ever being able to fill those shoes.

I've been an rhcp fan as long as I can remember. I enjoyed the cd and I didn't find it souless at all for reasons I've already said earlier. It's different but it isn't bad in the least bit

Yeah, I give them a pass for Pleased to Meet Me, which still sounds like the Mats. there's still an undercurrent of the self-sabotage which is the band's trademark: IOU and I Don't Know would've fit perfectly on Tim. And even the single (The Ledge), while great, was doomed to fail given that it was banned from MTV for being about suicide.

Some artists are the opposite. They experiment with all different things early, then find their voice and become more focused. This is often mistaken for "selling out".
An example: The Avett Brothers. Specifically "The Carpenter" which featured songs that were more organized and focused than their previous works. They were also catchier and had higher production values.
You could view that as selling out or as maturation. It really comes down to "do I like this or not?"
