Gave Devil's Coachman a listen; definite avant-garde lyrics, and cool bass line.
Sounds like a cross between the Beatles and Johnny Rotten. Interesting. No one in our circle listened to Hitchcock much; don't know how he escaped our notice.

Loved Robyn Hitchcock. He went off the rails in the mid 90s though. He still plays around here but I never go see him anymore. Last time I went was in 1999 and he did all his old stuff acoustically.
He did an acoustic cover of Psychedelic Furs' "The Ghost in You" a couple of years ago that's pretty damn good.

As an aside, back in the day I was told by more than one person that I bore a passing resemblance to him (other than him being about half a foot taller).

Depends on your age. He was sorta big in the alternative world in the mid to late 80's. But he kind of disappeared for a while after that. Richard Thompson is another guy that had a run in the 80's and into the early 90's. He's been able to keep his name out there a bit since he is one of the great guitar players of his generation.

Let It Be,Tim and Pleased To Meet Me are a damn fine strong 3 album streak. Highly recommended albums which most people have slept on.

Oh, I absolutely loved them. Pleased to Meet Me definitely the weakest of the three.

That said, I'm simply saying the Smiths were bigger. Much bigger (not that I liked them more).
