Neither, the best 80's band was The The.

You're welcome in advance.

A band that has one song that maybe 5 percent of music fans know and a second song that 0.043 percent of music fans know

This Is The Day & Dogs of Lust ?

And though not better than The Smiths and REM and Pixies, The Replacements and Westerberg were my college years favs by far.

They were a little uneven over the years (but that was part of the appeal).. But IMO their very best was better than all the rest...

Husker Du MUST be mentioned in a best band of the 80s...

Agree to both those comments.

Husker Du - These Important Years reminds me of a deceased CHS alum and LSU years chum of mine, that introduced Husker to me.

Warehouse: Songs and Stories was mighty satisfying; kind of like when you get a back-scratcher, and you finally reach that itch...aahhh! Guitar, bass, drums and vocals; stripped down, grab you by the throat, alt rock. One of those albums you listen to start to finish; one great song after another.

Let It Be,Tim and Pleased To Meet Me are a damn fine strong 3 album streak. Highly recommended albums which most people have slept on.

Green on Red.... But I would probably end up voting for REM.

Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians

Loved Robyn Hitchcock. He went off the rails in the mid 90s though. He still plays around here but I never go see him anymore. Last time I went was in 1999 and he did all his old stuff acoustically.

Love Hitchcock.

"And then she recognize me. Is this love? Is this love? Lost Madonna of the Wasps, I wonder where we crossed. I wonder where she lost me. Lost Madonna of the Wasps, she's lying in the frost. I wonder what she cost me."

I own a copy of Storefront Hitchcock by Jonathan Demme..highly recommend.

Talk Talk's 'It's My Life' definitely a Top 20 song of the 80s for me..hypnotic

No Doubt does a very honorable cover as all know.

I remember a few years ago I transcribed the bizarre spoken word parts of "Autumn Sea". They're kind of hard to make out and were not included in the lyrics with the album. Perfect example of absurdist English humor.

Man, Queen Elvis was the shite.

Vibrating. It's a shame that Sirius/XM only plays Balloon Man.

Devil's Coachman is one of my favorites. Pure dada lyrics, great bass line and fantastic arrangements.
