The US wins IMO. But that's not to say the UK isn't close with all the great music it's put out.

It is hard to say. I would say in the 60s and 70s the brits had a bit of an edge, but since then we have most likely surpassed them. In saying that with UK being a much smaller country I always been amazed how so many great bands can from one place in such a short period of time.

Per capita and during the peak of music the Brits ruled and fairly easily. If you don't factor in the relative populations then the US and Britain were fairly close with nobody else in sight.
