I’m not familiar with the origins of the new collaboration that Turnpike has with Old Crow Medicine Show, but I love it.
Does anyone know the backstory?

As far as I know they just toured together a good bit and he and ketch seem to be friends.
Red Rover was the song they wrote together. Pretty cool…..

Have done a listen through Very consistently TT. I suspect a couple will grow on me and become highlights, but not sure if there will end up being a live favorite/crowdpleaser on this one. No complaints, just may not be anything my wife replays to death (ie, Brought Me) on this.
“On the Red River” is immediately one of their all time great songs. Maybe it’s because I’m a son of a wonderful father and a father myself of sons, that one hits hard as hell - one of my favorite father / son songs I’ve heard in a long time.

It’s excellent.
I saw them at Big Sky last year.
The next day I ran into a group on a mountain in Glacier National Park that had been to the festival.
They asked which band I enjoyed the most. I gushed on the Troubadours. They walked on, but a few minutes later, one of them walked back and tapped me on the shoulder.
“My wife is making me do this. I’m Ryan Engleman, guitarist for the Turnpike Troubadours. I’m glad you enjoyed the show.”
I hadn’t recognized him! Great guy.

They played at the varsity at minimum 3 times before Evan got sober.
Their last show there was right before they broke up.
They ended the show with the Dawes song “May All Your Favorite Bands Stay Together.”
It was a moment.

I've listened to it a handful of times, a few songs take a time or three to settle in on and get a feel of the writing. On The Red River, takes no such time, it was a banger right out of the gate. My 3 favorite songs to date are:
On The Red River
Heaven Passing Through
The Devil Plies His Trade
As far as live goes we've seen them several times, first time was 2013. We were at what was their 2nd show back after the breakup and I've yet to get a poor sounding event, maybe the beer helped. We have tickets for them at Red Rocks in about 3 weeks, REK is opening, can't freaking wait.

My dad died 14 years ago. We were hunting buddies and best friends. My son is 6. When this album dropped I was in tears making him breakfast for school that Friday morning.

I agree (three boys).
But all my favorite TT songs are jams, so that's really what I meant. However, I think Be Here, What Was Advertised and Nothing You Can Do will all be live favorites going forward.
I liked it on first listen - I like it more now.

It took me 3 or 4 full listens through, but I’m starting to love it.
“What Was Advertised” is going to kick arse live.

The show at Billy Bob's when they started touring again was incredible.
Was there for the Saturday night show and yeah, it was awesome. They were really dialed in.
Saw them again there last year (I think?) not as good but still pretty solid.

Then the rest are just good, not bad.

Agree. This album has a lot of great songs. Am I the only one that loves “Leaving Town (Woody Guthrie Festival)?

Love the guitar riff in leaving town.

Felker is one of the best I’ve ever heard at writing a melody.
