I'd be more afraid to ride in a big tour bus than a plane if my plane blew a tire and crashed on the ground.

he associates the event with a plane, not the bus. so that's likely why he's scared of flying.

Y'all are trying to apply logic to fear which doesn't work. Most people's fears aren't logical at all. Like being afraid of a spider when all you have to do is step on it. Now being afraid of spiders if you don't know where it is would be logical.
It's all about perceived risk which varies by person. Being in the crash would definitely make you perceive the plane crash being riskier than a car or boat.

I survived 3 horrific car crashes, still drive 6 years later. BUT if i were in a plane crash, no way in hell would i ever fly again

What is he fearful of? That he'll have the same shitty pilot who thought it would be a good idea to abort her takeoff at ridiculously high speed?

A plane crash obviously. If it happened to him once why couldn't it happen again? The chances it happens again are the same as the chances of it happening the first time.
Until you've been in a plane crash where everyone died, I don't really think you can understand. I've never been afraid of flying but I think if I went through what he went through I wouldn't fly again.

he was in a plane when it crashed and he almost died... in flight or not, its a legitimate fear.

There aren't many people that can relate to Travis. What an awful thing to go through. He will never forget what happened and you can't ask him to do anything that he's not ready for.

I honestly don't even know who he is...
Perhaps because I travel a lot for work, and know a few pilots I'm much more aware of incidents and their infrequency and the odds of them happening.
