Check this shite out
quote:
interview with Junkee and revealed an untold story about a song called “7empest,” found on his latest album Fear Inoculum.
Maynard has explained how they finished that song with some guitar riffs and materials from the Aenima album, which was released 21 years ago. He added that Tool guitarist Adam Jones has been hoping to use one of his riffs for 21 years, and finally used it on the song called “7empest” while recording the new album Fear Inoculum.
Here’s the statement:
“There are riffs on the new album that Adam had before I was even in the band,” he offers. “The last track, ‘7empest’ [pronounced Tempest], the main body of the first chunk of the song is a verse and then a really heavy recurring riff, something I came up with in [the time signature of] 21.
We’d been trying to find [another riff that goes with it], and it ended up being something we’d tried on several albums, with different ideas, and it just never clicked. And then all of a sudden there it is and it works, and it totally is the complete thing that the other riff needed. I think Adam had that riff when we were trying to write for [1996’s] Aenima album. It just kept getting brought up and put on the side.
Adam’s really cool like that. He’s very precious about the ideas we have and he’s always like, ‘Don’t forget about that, we’ll use it one day. You can’t be frivolous about them. You’ve got to respect the fact that they’re really worth something when you first come up with them and you think they’re good, so don’t throw them away.’ So we have this huge catalogue of stuff that we keep on the backburner.”

That is good to read Im understanding the criticism of some but I dont think their is any doubt that the band at the top of thier game as far as ability and there is plenty in the tank. I really do think we will see another album within 5 years.

There were rumblings about this album being a double disc, so I’d say it’s likely they have other material primed and ready to go.

The official mp3 files from the download card on the limited edition label the album as 01, lots of discussion about it, esp now that Adam tweeted a fan saying it's not over yet

Where? I'd like to take a look at that.

Listened to it twice today, for the first time. Other than that throw away Chocolate bullshite, I really like it.

After about the 10th or so listen, this has surpassed Lateralus for me, and I thought that impossible. We will see if it holds up like that album has, but holy crap what a masterpiece.
Just finished listen 7 and I’m where you are. Straight up dumbfounded

For those interested, I’ve been watching Jim Newstead reaction videos on YouTube. He does the whole album. Quite enjoyable

I'm starting to come around to FI now after a few listens. I was not impressed the first go around as I thought it was rather drawn out and boring, even for TOOL. No way I'd rank it over any of their other releases, but I may in due time.
I just can't see how most of y'all have it ranked over the rawness of Opiate or the masterpiece that is Undertow. However, this may just be the nostalgia talking for me. I can remember exactly where I was (at 11-12 years old) the first times I heard these 2 albums. shite was groundbreaking for me.

Even my least ranked Tool album is better than most of the music I like out there.
I got Undertow from my sister's bf back when I was listening to stuff like Green Day, Offspring, etc. It changed me for sure and holds a dear place in my heart.
FI is just the evolution, I really connect with it today much like I did Undertow in 95 and AEnmia in 96, and Lateralus in 2001. 10k in 2006 was the exception, bc i just lost my dad a month before, which is ironic considering my dad was Christian like Maynard's mom and had a health issue as well.
Each album dropped in tune with my life at the time, as is FI.

Listened for the first time uninterrupted on quality headphones and a cool buzz and I'm fricking sold. It's like the album start to finish is telling a story. Like I'm sonically watching a movie and this is the soundtrack. fricking A

Love the new album, but Lateralus is still king. It took awhile for 10,000 days to grow on me and I still have that album above FI. It is possible it could take the 3 spot with more and more listens.
1.Lateralus
2.Aenima
3.10k
4.FI
I think FI has just made me realize how many solid albums they have done when im sitting here thinking " I love this shite so much.....I love it so much...yet I love these other more." What a wonderful problem to have.

IMO that's exactly what's going on. 2019 tool could not have released a better album than this.

And this isn't a knock on other Tool albums. I think Lateralus remains the best heavy record of the 21st Century.
I have not listened to FI yet, just that first single (which was kind of "meh" upon first listen), but will get around to it today or tomorrow.

Nope. Undertow. That album is tight and gets better every time I listen to it.
Are you considering the EPs in your ranking or just LPs?
