Can I say something that's kinda been hinted at.
This album was announced in late July 2019 while Maynard was on Joe Rogan when he announced the title: "Fear Inoculum", the album art was a syringe and the opening single, title track, Fear Inoculum translates into getting innoculated (vaccine) involving fear, and contains these lyrics:
These mother frickers either:
A) Casted a spell and caused COVID and the "fear shot" OR
B) Are prophetic as frick.
C) Time travelers or something of the sort (13 year hiatus and they predict the pandemic, starting a month after their album drops?)
Album was released August 30, 2021, less than two months later COVID appeared. And around a year after that the "fear vaccine" was pushed and tons of people certainly got it out of fear. Wild shite.

quote:
Immunity, long overdue
Contagion, I exhale you
Naive, I opened up to you
Venom and mania
Now, contagion, I exhale you
[Interlude]
The deceiver says, he says
"You belong to me
You don't wanna breathe the light of the others
Fear the light, fear the breath
Fear the others for eternity"
But I hear them now, inhale the clarity
Hear the venom, the venom in
What you say inoculated
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity
[Chorus]
Exhale, expel
Recast my tale
Weave my allegorical elegy
[Verse 2]
Enumerate all that I'm to do
Calculating steps away from you
My own mitosis
Growing through division from mania
[Chorus]
Exhale, expel
Recast my tale
Weave my allegorical elegy
[Bridge]
Forfeit all control
You poison, you spectacle
Exorcise the spectacle
Exorcise the malady
Exorcise the disparate
Poison for eternity
Purge me and evacuate
The venom and the fear that binds me

Also worth considering on that timeline that the album was done months before it was released. Production time, mastering, recording, and writing all in reverse order from release. Who knows when the lyrics were penned, but well before any murmurs of Covid were coming out of China.

No shite. I never even thought of that. I need to read his book I guess.

Hmmmmm, its all very bizarre. So MJK's book comes out a month before Trump gets elected? FI Comes out a month before COVID is unleashed.... I think there needs to be some more digging into TOOL and events as a whole.
What if the "Mirage" hotel incident and this album casted a spell using massive energy? Like a spell feeding from the energy of millions of diehard fans waiting for this to drop for 13 years and the build up and the release of energy all at once when it leaked, the looking glass tech maybe?
That's why they waited, it was a 13 year hitatus casting a fricking spell. Dammit TOOL.
Now we're talking

Interesting point. Everything said Maynard comes in at the end but you're right, that still puts them even more months ahead.

Just a bump bc 10k days turned 16 (!!!) yesterday. I listened to it in headphones in the dark last night. Just incredible and very seminal album.
It's my least favorite album of theirs (I mean I have to pick one) but I'll be damned if I don't like it more and more each listen. It's interesting timing for me bc my dad had passed away 2 weeks prior to it's release in 2006, so now looking back in that context, and MJK's mom's passing being most of the inspiration, etc, it's pretty moving for me.

I listened to Wings I/II this morning. I shouldn't have. I was all jazzed for Friday. Dad died 3 years ago after being in a nursing home half paralyzed for a few years. That song(s) is too much. So good, but there were a few moments on my damn commute that my allergies started acting up...
