I don't know. Is his voice so good to the point that it negates their inane music?

Ironically, Journey appears to be the exception that proves this rule. The little Filipino replacement sounds MORE like Steve Perry than Steve Perry.

Yeah thought about that as i was typing it... But I still dont call them Journey. Just a good cover band

Interesting thing about that is he wasn't the original singer either.

I simply refer to his as 'The Voice'. Definitely one of my favorite all time vocalists.

That was the takeover. The first time he recorded “When the summers gone….” in that studio was when he became the driving force behind Journey.

Never been a Journey fan but Perry is one of the best vocalist to ever front a band.

Period.

I just recently stumbled onto the Journey HD remastered 1981 Houston concert. Holy cow. Perry's live performance was better than anything cut today in the studio.

No one can watch that and say he wasn't one of the most talented singers of his era.

Steve Perry completely changed the sound of Journey. I always thought his voice was kind of nasally but have come to appreciate it more as the years go on but listen to the band's first 3 albums, prior to Steve Perry appearing on "Infinity" in 1978, and the change in musical direction will make your head spin like Linda Blair's in "The Exorcist". My favorite of those 3 is the 3rd one "Next" which immediately precedes "Infinity". I think this is one of the best albums by any band ever - great stuff

True. But he was the singer of most of their major hits and the band probably doesn't become as big had he not joined the group. Sorta like Phil Collins/Genesis.

Steve Perry is an absolute chad of a vocalist. Dude is amazingly talented

Agree. Put on karaoke and try to nail it in the key it’s written in and you find out how good he is.

Did he get it from oral sex like Dave Mustaine and Bruce Dickinson? Because those tough sumbitches came back harder than ever (especially Bruce).
