I hated them in the 90's then started liking the 90's stuff in the early 2000's. I'll admit I've only got their most popular songs from the 90's except for the album Thst came out a couple of years ago and it's terrible.

Gish, Siames Dream and Pisces Iscariot were great.
Melancolie had aome good stuff but could have been cut douwn to 1 CD.
Everything else they did was hot garbage.
On a side note, listneing to their stuff now that I'm a little older... Billy Corgan was one whinny little bitch.

Corgan is an insufferable count.
Jimmy Chamberlin is one of the best drummers around.
Siamese Dream is great. Mellon Collie is really solid but also one of the most self-serving albums I've ever heard.

Some of the recent B0lly stories are absolutely fantastic. The coffee shop crap is the epitome of pretentiousness.
And what do I find funniest about the Powder look-alike? "What's that? You have a vagina and can hold up a bass guitar? Wanna join my band?"

A band that needed all parts to work.
They had 2 great albums and a good one and they went in successive order from Gish to Infinite Sadness.
They sound terrible live. Corgan will NOT go down as one of the greatest frontmen of all time. He also won't be one of the greatest guitarists, either as Iha played that role in the 90's (so I thought)
Rob Zombie and Evan Dando have better chances of making the RRHOF.

What? Billy is definitely a great guitarist and far better than James.

I disagree, but that doesn't matter. RRHOF is a bullshite industry circle jerk.

I bet Billy would look good with a mohawk

Corgan played everything but drums on the albums.

Good for him. He still was not great and I am asking you then what role did Iha play on the albums (without me going to wiki)?

I agree. BUT that goes without saying. Still, even when the leadership and direction of the RRHOF changes, Corgan will not be inducted.
And Iha -- give the dude some credit.

I know Corgan wrote all the material. I know he's the brains, but I just do not believe his style was GREAT. Unique and distortion extraordinaire -- certainly. He's not in the discussion with the GREAT guitar players. Great studio men? Sure thing. Uncle AL Jorgenson can be mentioned in that.

I have nothing against Iha. He's a solid player and did some writing in the band, but Billy is a much better guitarist. That's not a knock on James. James kind of held them together sonically while Billy was making it rain feedback.

It's no coincidence that he's highly regarding among guitar players. His use of feedback and distortion actually kind of masks his talent at times, but his ability to use feedback is a talent in and of itself.
ETA - Billy didn't write all of the material, but he did write the lion's share.

Iha is not some guitar virtuoso. He's talented, but come on. He played in a band with Taylor Hanson. His solo album was also pretty terrible.
People loved the band in the 90's because the members of the band seemed like this really interesting and eclectic group, but Billy was really the driving force behind the band and wrote almost all of the music.

Corgan was the guitarist. Iha was nothing more than a session guitarist. Next time you listen to Siamese Dream, take note that Billy played every guitar and bass note on that album.

Great band. I don't think they get nearly enough credit. Just listened to a really cool interview of BC by Howard Stern on Youtube. I always liked their music but never knew much about them outside of their music, but BC is a really smart, interesting guy. For some reason, I didn't really expect him to be.

Billy is a fantastic guitarist and very underrated if you ask me. Love the tone he gets.
