The new Kanye album is actually good.

It's not his best but still a good listen start to finish. The Guardian and now Pitchfork have panned it. Goes to show that being a politically incorrect loon will be result in negative media reaction. Best rap album in a while is Maps by Billy Woods and Kenny Segal.

I've tried getting into Kanye several times. I like some of his stuff, but maybe his style is just not for me. The new album did nothing for me. Killer Mike's new album on the other hand...I like that.

Mike is dope! I presume you've checked in on Run the Jewels...along with his other solo stuff like "RAP Music"?

I've enjoyed it a lot. The production is really good, and Kanye's verses are well done for the most part.
favorites are:
Carnival
Beg Forgiveness
Paid
Do it
Problematic

I have a road trip this weekend and might make myself finally listen to this. Sounds like the distributor is trying to take it down, though, due to some dispute with Kanye.
I always think I'm done with him, then he does something like It's Almost Dry or Kids See Ghosts and pulls me back in.
Agreed on billy woods. That shite was fire. Almost all the rap I enjoy these days is throwback ala Griselda crew, Freddie Gibbs, Boldy James or indie stuff like billy woods.
Just listened to the new Schoolboy Q single, though, and it's dope AF. So there might be some hope on the horizon for more mainstream rap.

It has the same sort of issues as a lot of Kanye's recent work has had for me. Good concepts, but inconsistency and a general feeling Kanye's lost the ability to see a concept through to a cohesively great album.
Through MBDTF, Kanye's albums were all consistently high level. Even the stuff of his I like these days, it seems like he's lost the discipline to turn the concept into a cohesive album.
His best stuff post-MBDTF for me are Daytona and Kids See Ghosts and both are because he kept them tight and strong.
I like moments in Vultures, Pablo, Donda and Jesus is King, but it's just certain songs. There are highs where you can see he still has it, but usually as many tracks that are just aimless that drag the overall quality.

His first 3 albums- College Dropout, late Registration and Graduation and top notch

I never thought I would say this but Yeezus and Ye are probably my two favorite from him. Those songs grew on me big time
My biggest problem with these last two albums is that it seems like he’s mostly stopped being unique from a production level. His stuff used to sound so different from everyone else but now that’s not really the case.

No disrespect, but Ye and Yeezus are two of my least favorites of his.
Yeezus, I can respect the aesthetic he's going for, but it just does not do it for me. I rarely return to those songs.
Ye is ok, but it was in the run with Dayton and Kids See Ghosts and I significantly prefer those records. Ye's production isn't bad but it doesn't stand out and Kanye is absolutely capable of much more.
The Daytona/KSG projects reflect on how I think of Kanye's modern work. I'm not sure he has the focus or discipline to do a solo record that's great front to back any more. He needs Push or Cudi tp provide structure and momentum.
Alone, he gets lost in self-indulgence and produces stuff that just isn't consistent quality.

Any music that consistently says the f word and n word is not good

Have to disagree although the beautiful butt naked big titty women refrain is a bit annoying. This song is growing on me and Freddie Gibbs kills it in the second half. Appreciate the comment though because it led me to: 1985

Clearly you don't Rage Against the Machine.
